Did my Swingarm Shrink?

Cookie

God help the child who grows out of everything
So, here's the deal. Took my wheels off and apart. Catalogged what pieces came from where and sent the wheels to be powder coated. Put my tires back on and reinstalled the bearings, spacers, cushions/sprocket and brake as they came off.

Everything looked good...

Until I tried to install my rear wheel.

For some reason, I can't seem to get the rear wheel and all its spacers back into place in the swingarm.
I've made sure that I pressed the bearings back in to the right depth, the brake and sprocket seem to fit proper. But, when I put it all together, I seem to have about 1/8" more wheel than I have space in the arm.

Ideas?

It happens. Have a buddy give you a hand spreading the swinger open and mount the wheel. No biggie.

That's it? Phew, thought I was losing it
Thanks again, Von

What VonYinzer said.

I had to use a pry bar this week to spread a swingarm a bit to get the wheel in. No big deal.

You shouldn't have put the swingarm in the dryer on "High/Cottons." Didn't you read the label??

the swingarms are usually wider than the rear axle stack, and are pulled tight by the axle nut, I'd triple check everything before installing it that way, you don't want to lock up the rear end from a siezed bearing or something (I heard something about that happening to someone on CR TV?)

Yep - double check your spacers. The inner hub spacer should be flush against the bearing inner races, so there should be no doubt with that one.

If that checks out and there's still tightness, then it will be OK to spread the swingarm.

Done and done. Thanks all! bearings were seated against the inner spacers with a ton press. Sprocket and brake were in place fine. Nudged arm apart slightly and all went in fine!

On with fender mock up

No no no a pist off emplyee at suzuki made that arm on a full moon and mixed the blood of three wolf cubs in with the moltent steel befor casting. I heard of it once but always wrote it off as a old wives tale you should pm big rich he is a expert in all thing zuk all i got as far as advice is wash your hands after holding it and for god sake keep your kids away. rich is cranky some times so if he doesnt get back to you with in the hour resend the message with the words purple feather, long story but it will work. also this is a public forum so it may already be to late but its important not to let big brother learn of your warearm. the government was conducting test on it in the mid 90s. at the end of the day two cia were found dead and the warearm was gone. there was sighting thrpugh out the years but nothing concrete. looks like shes back pm big rich amd remember purple feather!

Hahaha......

Cookie, if you're positive the wheel bearings are all properly spaced, check the bearing spacer between the wheel hub and sprocket carrier. It has a collar on it, but I think it doesn't matter which way it is installed (I think that collar keeps it centered for inserting the axle).

Thanks for the warnigs, brad.
Used a silver wedge shaped like a crucifix to spread the arm. Went in no problem. I just have to remember all the tips when I put it back together after coating.
