DIY Carb Gaskets

imseamless

Been Around the Block
Does anyone have experience making or repairing a float bowl gasket? Upon pulling my carbs for the second time, one of the was cut in half (assuming it wasn't seated in there correctly when I wrenched it down).

I'm not going to replace them, I'd rather make them. I've read that you can buy Gasket Material and cut to fit (gas resistant, apparently cork or rubber works) or some guys are using silicone. Silicone seems like it would make a mess. I think I'm going to buy the rubber gasket material and make up something.

haven't found any sheet material that stands up well to gas. check out mcmaster, most float bowl gaskets are just big o rings, I bought a bag of 50 that fit 350 carbs for about $7

Yeah that is was I figured. I bought some silicone to try out on one of the float bowls. Did you recall the inner and outer diameter of O rings you bought? That definitely sounds like the best route.

if you just need something cheap and temp I just use the cardboard from a soda case (beer works too)

haha! That is a great idea. I should have done that so I could run around the block to check my jetting. Now I have to wait 12 hours for the silicone to dry. Next time I know!

The silicone should work fine, if it were me id put a bead in the lip and let that set up. I wouldnt put the bowl back on while the silicone was wet
