Does anybody DIY rear sets?

Hey, I would like to make my own rear sets for a track project. Has anybody taken pics of a successful DIY project? I think a bike specific fabrication in 12g and mounting bracket welded on would be lighter than multi fit Aluminum. I could be wrong...

This will be going into a '76 GS750

You should just say "hi my name is Suzi, and I would like you assholes to give me a rash of shit about my idea". These ladies on this site will overlook your girl name, but they won't let you have an original idea.

Haha, very good.

I a little older than the crowd that is concerned with what people think of my thought process and I certainly get that a large portion of the Cafe scene will not have heard of Johnny Cash or find the strained reference as entertaining as I do (or once did). There are a lot of unique 'individuals' in the world who work really hard to fit in and not stand out amongst their perceived social group.

I've done more research/surfing to find components that will work well with some home made mounting plates.

I think you'll find quite a few Johnny Cash fans amongst our group. ;)

Done listen to Bee, he is just butt hurt that people don't like his chopper (I do)

There have been several diy rearset builds here.
I have designed a few but have not built them because I didn't have the tools at the time. I will build my next set.
You really need a lathe and a tig welder to make them right.
But patterns are easy to make, and you can print them on computer paper to transfer to the steel.
I would say 12 gauge is probably not thick enough, certainly not for the brake side, think about the side load you are putting on the lever arm as you slam down on the brakes in a panic stop. I'd consider more like 3/16
I'll make mine from 3/16 or 1/4" 6061 most likely.

If you do make them, make them to accept bearings at the pivots so you are not getting steel on steel rotation (rust/corrosion) Skateboard bearings are cheap and easy to work with.

Mounting plates are easy. Sit on the bike and have a buddy mark the frame where you want your feet and bust out the welder.

Oh and anyone who doesn't know every word to A Boy Named Sue can go and fuck themselves with a ratchet.

This needs to be on your signature, because that sir is a great line.

I coped some tuning and made some basic pegs/levers and linkages, REALLY happy with the results on a budget. Had them powdercoated too...

Just use sport bike rear sets ( ;D yes, this vid is intended to be humor for entertainment purposes only )

I usually buy the cheapest set of GSXR/R1/whatever set off ebay and make up mounts to suit. All I need are levers and pegs basically and then fab up a mount.

Had these on my bike a good five years before we decided to manufacture and sell these.

Hey crew, thanks for the help. I'm gonna try this weekend and mock up what I need. I have 3/16" cr plate, should be plenty strong.

That video from Ichiban Moto looked good at first, I should read the disclaimer before pushing the play button.

Maybe this template will help... Click on it and it should display in full size. Then you can save it and open it up using MicroSoft Paint and resize to what ever you need if it's not right...

Good looking diagrams, Hoosier. However, unless you have a mill and a lathe, it's going to be quite difficult to truly so a DIY set.

Huh...Guess no one told me. I did mine with a hand sabre saw, bench top drill, and finished with a drum sander chucked up in the drill. ;) Haven't finished them, but drilling speed holes is easy enough and if you want the sloted shapes just cut out the meat between two adjacent holes.

Was going to use a seat of BMX pegs but wanted something that folds Wound up finding a set of these polished aluminum bits at the local Honda Dealership on the Bargin table for $20
Took off the arch tube mounts and the mounting bolt passes through the double bronze bushings of my levers. Wound up using the funky step down washers on my exhaust hangers. ;)

Oh and another heads up. For linkages, shift arms, and brake arms to use with rear sets Fast From the Past has a great section to check out HERE even if you just want ideas to copy.
