Does anyone here dabble in Pinstriping?...

Is that the best you got? OK.. now my TURN...
Just wondering... thats all...

I've always had an interest in the art and decided that I'd pick it up as a hobby to keep me busy during the upcoming winter months... (other than finish off my Triumph, Im not doing a winter project this year...)

so far, Im about 70% proficient at consistently pulling horizontal and vertical straight lines and c-curves at a consistent thickness with various striping swords and brushes... Still working on getting a nice consistent scrolling method...

Im just curious whos striping lines and what tools are being used... So far, Im torn between the Mack swords and the Kaftka brushes... I also have a Beugler tool that I havet used yet... ( I feel using that tool is cheating!!..)

I dabbled when I first bought my Impala. I liked Macks-easy to use. Keep some magazines around for the excess. This is a good forum: http://www.pinheadlounge.com/

thanks for the link Kev..

After doing many many many lines using the Mack swords, I find that they are great at pulling straight lines... curved lines however are a different story, you have to twist the brush as you pull... not doing it right will get you the dreaded calligraphy effect...

I find that that I can pull nice curves and flames using the Kaftka burshes without rolling the brush because of its design...

my brother used to... but since halloween and he saw me air brush he is in a new world now... he has the KZ200 completely torn down and about 1/2 the paint done... i have been over there showing him how to airbursh, he wants to pinstripe to accetn the airbrush work... sould be different but cool

yeah... airbrushing is a completely different world.... and when those 2 worlds collide, it pretty darn amazing!

I've always underestimated the complexity and skill needed to do a hand striped design... looks easy.. how hard can it be?...

Now I totally respect that art.. Im sure airbrushing is the same!!

I have been learning and I must say that I have mack and kafka brushes and I like the KAfka for an overall easier feel. I pretty much do not use my mack anymore.

It is a ton of fun, and even though I am not good yet I feel confident that when my bobber is done if will have my pinstriping on it (and I will like them).

I've been painting on and off for 5-6 years now. I use mack 00 brushes the most. Get the blue thread brushes not the green, the green ones suck. I use a kafka but I don't like it as much. Yes you have to roll a mack but with practice you can get nice tight curves. I'm still learning and do not consider myself a pro at all. I do it for fun, usually on my own stuff or friends stuff. A paint shop near me was going out of business and I got nearly every color of one shot for a buck a can so I can really get creative with my colors.
I've got a page on the pinhead lounge, under Aaron Weeks most of the stuff is pretty old, I have not been doing it as much as I'd like to latley.
