"Drewski's h1a/750"

Why ? ;)
Off the track and back on the road she goes (with a few changes)... maybe this summer. ;) :D

Well, the main reason is, we didn't get the whole race bike. We only got the frame, swing arm, basic body work, triple clamps, stem and title. :D

I'm more of a h2 750 guy anyway. This way, we get the h1 "look" with the h2 "grunt"!! ;D

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Like the look of that race bike! What class did you race in and was it competitive? Any horsepower/torque numbers on the motor and dry weight? How was the handling?

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Hey Kemp! :D

I'm not sure the details on it's race history. I didn't race it! :D

At that time, it was still powered by a fairly mild 500cc h1 engine. I'm told it ran quite well and was very competitive in the VRRA class that it qualified for. Not sure which class that was though. Sorry man! I'm not much help, am I! :)

The last owner decided to go a different way and sold my brother and me the frame, swing arm, basic original body parts, triple clamps, stem and a few other assorted bits, including the title. Now's the time to get her back on the road... fit to terrorize neighbourhoods in and around Southern Ontario!! ;D 8)

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Well, we did a little playing around today. I got a few pics to show what we're thinking about. :D

We've been debating front and rear wheels, swing arms, shocks, brakes, etc. for a couple of weeks now. I believe we're down to only a couple of choices now. ;)

The front end is on it for mock-up purposes. It's my kz1000 forks and hub laced to a 18" Sun aluminum rim from Buchanan's. This set up was on the "Mongrel" when it last ran a couple of years ago. The dual discs are Kawasaki items and will be retained for now until EX500 calipers and adapters can be sourced.

It looks like the forks will have to be slid further up into the triple clamps, so we'll either have to go with clip-on bars or modify the fork internals to make the overall length shorter.

The swing arm/rear wheel combo is nearly sorted. :)

We decided to retain the h2 rear hub with the 18" Sun aluminum rim as you see it here. It also was last seen on the "Mongrel" a couple of years ago. That combo is too wide to work on the h1 swing arm. We could possibly use an early 72-73 h2 swing arm that's a straight drop in, but I'm less inclined to go that way now. I have a kz1000 'arm and with a little work it should fit nicely. It will add 1.5" to the wheelbase, but for our purposes at this time, I think that's acceptable.

Here's a pic, wheel on swing arm, sitting next to the frame.

So, the frame gets torn down and sent off with the swing arm to the welding shop for some bracing and some trimming to fit. The upper shock mounts will also get the lay-down treatment and that should be about it. Aside from a few other tweeks here and there, of course. ::) ;D

Gotta get the h2 motor on the bench and send the crank off for a rebuild too. I hope Seaglider is ready to fling open his wallet!! ;D ;D

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Hey Drewski, I finally made it over here!
Definitely follow through with the lay down shocks like LC's bike... That would look insane!

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Really looks good with stock bodywork and that aged patina. Could be quite the sleeper. You might be pleasantly surprised with the longer forks and maybe longer shocks as you might need to raise the chassis with the wider H2 engine, at least you have the option with those massive KZ 1000 forks. Can't wait to see this beast prowling around southern Ontario. Who knows, maybe one night you'll meet up with the "Hybrid" heh, heh.

Yup, gonna drop the frame and swing arm with Trevor in Streetsville in a week or so and let him do some of his "magic". :D Lay-down shocks are on the list! 8)

Ya, likin' the patina myself!! We're gonna shine it up as is, and enjoy it!

According to the fast track guys, the hot set-up for h1's is to raise the rear with longer shocks. We have the longer shocks, but the front end needs to be a tad lower for the thing to work best. We have a plan to use clip-ons anyhow, so this is gonna workout just peachy! ;D

Ya, Hybrid's, kh4/5's, Mongrel's, h1/750's... we need to get 'em all together and go for a romp! THAT would be fun! 8)

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Trevor's bike is one of the nicest triples I've ever seen!
The attention to detail is second to none! It's truly jaw dropping in person and the best part is it goes as good as it looks! 8)

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

I'm currently looking at a set of clipons from Fast from the Past.....if anyone knows of a local source for period correct clipons let me know. I'll let Drewski do the grunt work and I'll get the trinkets!! ;D 8)

Well, if he doesn't want/need it, I know someone who would!! ::)

Standing offer.... :)

Cleaning house?? Simplifying??

I did that a while ago. Had too many projects that I was never going to get to. KZ900's, h1500's... good projects but honestly... how many things can you work on at one time and do your best on all of 'em? I found the answer for me was 2!! ;D Max!! One is even better of course! ;D

Re: A Drewski/Seaglider Production

Sign me up! I'm in on this build! I know a set of WTFs are coming though. There is no way you post that many pics, talk about them that much and then say you are going to put Wirges on it. You know and I know, those aren't the best pipes! I'd love a set of WTF pipes on my bike, but the Denco Stingers will have to work for now. After I get Moo to work his magic on my 500, I'll top it off with a set of WTFs. That's the dream at least. I'm digging your builds man!
