Brother just gave me a CM400 he bought to yank a couple parts from. So I spent a few hours on it now checking things over pressure washed it etc. I spend most of my time working on my DSM, a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. I'm the marketing advisor and Graphic Designer for ImportEvolution.com, so I spend time with cars to say the least.

Heres a few shots of the Honda:

The day I first saw it.

And a few minutes later.

After a good Pressure Washing.

Heres my quick rendition of what I would do if I could, but I dont want to spend any money on this thing, just have fun.

Only thinkg worth a look with the DSM:

Some work done since this pic, but close enough.

Welcome. Keep us informed if you decide to drop a few bucks on the bike. It looks like a slightly more beaten up version of my daily rider.

Their are a few parts I cant really avoid buying, nothing exciting. Pics for sure whenever I get them.

Headlight: not stock, I like the dual round look.
Tail light: something cheap, small and effective.
bars/grips: I like dirt bike bars.
Battery: maybe something smaller and tuck some wiring.
Tires: Need something sportier than these, and not 15 years old.
Intake: probably going to run stock air box and filter to avoid re-jetting for this year.
Seat: re-wrap for now, next year maybe the custom stuff (or over the winter).
Mirrors: I like the bar mirrors.
Fender: first need to find some then cut them down and tuck them real tight with the tire.
Tank: Can I have a bigger one please?

I'm wondering if anyone ever hot-tanks carburetors? I can get it done if its not a bad idea...

Oh and anyone with a cm400...if they wanted to post pics of it here that would be helpful in giving me ideas!

Looks like a good list for a basic clean-up. I would think you could hot tank your carbs if you tore them down far enough and didn't have any rubber bits included.

here's where my CM400 sits right now. I cut the rear seat mount and dropped the rear fender tonight so it's a tiny bit different.

Welcome, seems to be a lot of CM400/CB400 popping up. I have a CM400/CB450 hibred. Not worth looking at right now as it is half cafe'd.

Still Trying to get the seat thing figured out and need a 2-up fro Wifey to come along.

One of the best builds in my opinion is Canuck Plumbers:

Check it out. ALso there are 2-3 other really nice builds. One recent that is a fighter style that you would never guess was a CM400.

Cheers,

Maritime

PS: Nice DSM.

Thanks guys, picked up some of the stuff. Tried to start it and gas went right back out the right side carb overflow. Guess I better pull it back out.

Old bars, pulls the rear shocks to see what it looked like lowered, no seat, I guess Im a little tall for that position.

The hog without me in the way.

Ugly stock seat, new bars, grips, some paint.

Picked up a set of dual round lights that look real nice on it. Havent fabbed the mount bracket yet though.

That's looking pretty good so far, I've got a CM400 project too but it's on the back burner until I finish my CB750K3 in the spring.
Although I am figuring out what I want to do with it lately, I'm leaning towards drag bars, plastic fenders, some sort of seat that I can hide the battery and electrics in or under, and I'm figuring on making the header pipes into baffled, slash cut drag pipes.

What's your plan for pipes?
-Alan

Hey Pinche - what kind of tank is that in the second picture? And did you have to modify anything to get it to fit?

I like that size/style back tire Pinche what it that?

Pipes I have just the headers on, and so far just figure I'll run chrome turn downs. But depends on how it runs and if its to loud and obnoxious.

Some other projects taking up all the space...(people like pictures right?)

I just de fasired a GL1000. how are the low bars for comfort? The bike is currently my father in lawas and I was able to convince him to de-bag and ditch the fairing but can;t get the bars off yet. If I could tell him it is till comfy, maybe he will let me lower the bars for him. Nice project list!

Cheers,

Maritime

We actually have to change out the bars for something a little taller. They hit the tank and the bikes built for my old man who wants to sit up more.

I'm his brother, it's actually a GL1100, with CM400 fenders, and a CB360 headlight.

As for the clubmans, they are low. I'm 6'1 and it's a stretch for me. Flat bars, with a couple inches of pullback would be better for me. For the pops, I'm probably going with the standard bars off my 599, they have about 2" rise and 2" pullback. He's taller than I am, but he complains about leaning over that far.

The clubmans look good though, right!

Yep clubmans look good. I would love to fully Cafe my father in laws 1000, but he won't go there. I am going to do a lower bar for him I hope. I am just glad the horrible vetter fariing is trash. Now if I can get him to ditch the back rack and let me shave the seat down some. it has a king and queen big ass cup seat. I would love to score even an original stock seat for it.

Cheers,

I'm trying to talk him in to the tractor seat.

it will need trimmed somewhat.

The bars are emgo's. The bike shop had ordered them in for someone else that didn't pick them up, and Drifte decided to go ahead and try them. They worked out great! They are really wide, like dirt bike bar wide, but keep the classic style (chrome + no crossbar). I'll see if the package is still around to get a p#.

Long time, recently had a chance to tinker. It's so easy to say this and this would look good, but Im cheap, so its kinda what comes along and works.

Back wheel still needs painted gloss black.

Glad to see the CM400 project isn't dead. I finally got around to starting a post on my CM400 to Cafe build. Search "Frankenfe" you will see where I am. Looks like you are going the Bobber route. Prbably a better choice than I made with the Damn Loopy frame.
