DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW ENGINE COLORS AND PHOTOS!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Now that I have made a final decision on the rims and suspension I can start building the frame so I bought the tubing and a new tubing bender today.

Brothers Thank You all for your continued support of this build!

I just bent the first two pieces of tubing for the front of the frame and the tubing bender works very well and bent the tubing beautifully with no creases, I would highly recommend this bender to anyone interested in having one.

Brother bikeboy I will take some more photos in the morning and post them for you!

I was originally going to build a cafe style bike but have made the final decision to go with more of a pro street look.

The gas tank in this photo is from my dads 550 but I will be running the same style tank.

WOW. This thing is going to be out of control.

Joey, notice these bikes don't have the squared swing arms, and don't utilize rear suspension. You might be able to get away with a stock + extended swing arm and sell the square modern one.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Why would he not want to use a modern swing arm if he is using modern USD forks? I say if you are going, go all out, mixed-matched stuff never works well to me! Modern suspension used, should be used all the way around!

do yourself a favor and take that bender back.. those things are shit. get a benchmount or floor mount swing bender from woodward fab, jd squared, etc. trust me.

I was thinking the same thing - those things are OK for pipe, but if you are serious about tube bending for frame construction they are pretty limited.

You seem like a pretty resourceful guy Joe - why not build your own bender??

Agreed, I had one of these a few years back, it was total crap, I was better off with no bender than that bender, cause it kept me from doing stupid things. Pretty much every tube i put it got kinked.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Brothers I am not sure what you were using but this bender makes some of the nicest bends I have ever seen.

What are you bending? DOM tubing or pipe??

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

I tried bending various pieces of pipe and tubing from small thinwall to large heavy pieces, the bender bent all of them beautifully except for one thin piece but from what I have read if you fill thinwall with sand before bending it helps so I will test that and see.

When using this type of bender I found that if I used the next size smaller die than the tubes outside diameter the side of the die would grab the pipe and keep it from flattening around the curve or kinking. The pieces I bent today came out beautiful and look as good or better than most factory bends I have seen. I am not an expert on pipe, tubing, or bending so I can not recommend this and there is always a risk of danger when using a bender but it is what has worked best for me.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

The old sand trick works! I've done it witht he same bender you have.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

i have used that same bender... we did not use sand we capped the ends and filled with water then froze... worked great as well... but have to say, as far as benders go, that is low on the grade scale, if you are going to use them alot i say get a dif one, if it is just for this build and maybe a few uses here and there, that sucker will get it done!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Thank you for the recommendations!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

I converted the front of the frame from a double downtube to a single into a double downtube to make room for the dual carburetors out front.

I also goosenecked the top of the single downtube so that it can be welded directly to the neck which will do away with all of the factory stamped steel so that I can have a full tube frame.

Wow! I check out for a couple of weeks and look at what I miss! That downtube looks great bro. Your vision for this machine is spot on. Just keep building!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Maybe I missed it before, but are you running SU carbs? That is wicked...

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

Brother Deviant1 did you see the rims and front suspension I decided on? I am still undecided on the swingarm, I may go with something a little shorter. It is good to have you back I have missed you man!

Brother bradwsm Thank You for the compliment!

Brother two-smoker there are more photos of the carburetor and the one intake I built a few pages back, it is a dual throat 28mm Nikki and I am running one on each side, I just got the second carburetor yesterday so I can build the intake for the other side.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!

That goose-neck should also give additional tire/carburetor clearance, it looked like an interference fit prior to the neck mod. It looks good now.
This site easily has the most interesting builds I've seen.
Cheers, 50gary
