DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW ENGINE COLORS AND PHOTOS!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

does having 5 posts now give me credibility, or should I go on? How much I say does not reflect how much I know.

Usually, how much one says has a reverse proportion to how much they know.

54 pages of fluff and the thing dont run? Honest question man, is this form over function taken to the limit?
Lots of frames get built around motors that don't run. WTF???

I could careless but if you're a dick about it I give you -0- credibility regardless of how much you claim to know. That's just me though

Posted by: meerkatthelpful? Advice: get the thing to run before you sink any more time money or imagination into it. building a bike, however cool, around a dead motor, is nuts. imho . sir. love your work revhead by the way - out there designs, well executed, and FUNCTIONAL.

Do you honestly think if the motor doesn't run this thing is going to get scrapped??? Choosing to do fab work over motor work at this point is well within the guidelines listed in the
Custom Motorcycle Builders Guide. Dude is pretty tenacious. My bet is he pulls this off. Besides, Beethoven had his critics. Can you name one?

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

i just have to say this build is just way to purdy. love it man!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

Also... Meerkat, please realize that Joey is a professional engine builder and fabricator, which you would have known had you actually read any of the above "fluff". He owns his own shop, and has been more than helpful to countless members here. You kind of picked the wrong guy to start badmouthing. And one more thing, wheres your project?

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

Show respect, get respect.
Or atleast speak your mind tactfully and don't come off as such a jerk.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

I have been working on the exhaust all day and I just took a break and saw all of this, I started to write a long post and then erased it all.

I just did it again...and erased it all. Hahahaha!

There is not 55 pages of fluff here, there is however in my opinion 55 pages, as well as hundreds if not thousands of other pages throughout this site, of the DTT FAMILY supporting one another and sharing ideas. There are good respectful BROTHERS and SISTERS here so I guess in reality you could actually say there is 55 pages of LOVE here.

I did get a lot of work done on the exhaust and I will post the photos in a little while.

Well said man!
Can't wait to see that exhaust!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

amen, joey! i have read through this whole build and i am nothing but impressed with your work and all the feedback in this thread. imho if you dont like it dont read it. no one is forcing you to read this and hijacking some else's build thread to talk smack is down right disrepectful and should be left out.

well that all i got for what its worth.

now brother joey, let the build continue and bless us with your fine work!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

Thank you Brothers!

My Dad had the idea to model the exhaust after one of our favorite race cars, the mid 1960's indy car. I really liked the idea and took it one step further, we ran a triple stage exhaust on the engines that we won a lot of oval track races on so I decided to build the dual mid 1960's indy car style exhaust but instead of the dual megaphone pipes I built dual triple stage pipes!

Here is the pipe that I used to build it, the first stage is 1 1/2 inch, the second stage is, 1 3/4 inch, and the third stage is 2 inch. The first two stages are exhaust pipe, the third stage is stainless steel and we flared the end to match the intakes velocity stacks.

I cut the pipes into the lengths I wanted and welded them togethor to build the two triple stage pipes, I left the first stage long when I built them so that I had extra until I decided on the total length I wanted them.

As I had originally planned to run a single round pipe off of the end of the header I had to reconfigure the headers collector from a round end to a rectangle end so that the dual pipes would fit. After I reworked the collector I welded the dual pipes to the header. I wanted to keep the exhaust clean looking with no clamps so I welded it all togethor as one unit, the header and pipes togethor is 15 pieces!

I still have some welding and smoothing to do but here is how it looks on the bike.

Amen. The Church of Speed has spoken. Keep up the good fight Joe!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

love the exhaust! I feel like I should be hearing some regal trumpet music when that thing fires up!

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

So a simple question as to the viability of the motor makes me an ahole? Sensitive subject? I fully apreciate the work that has been done on this project, and I have read all the pages. I prefer bikes that run as starting points, shoot me.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

you're not making any sense.

I wish we could eliminate this kind of passive agressive crap. This is a great build, and although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, there are much better ways to express it. For example: Constructive criticism.

I really didn't want to say anything to prolong this off topic banter, but it is frustrating.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

Hey Meerkatt. settle down please. Joey appointed me as his official heckler. :) You trying to take my job? LOL

BTW, I agree that for neophytes it's better to start with a complete running bike, but to be honest, most of mine arrive in boxes and parts have to be sourced from all over the place. Now I think about it, very few of my project bike started as complete, running bikes.

Many of them have motors and suspension and frame and bodywork from different bikes and often not from the same manufacturer. My first Triumph started with a rolling chassis IIRC and I had to source everything else.

The Phat Trakka frame came from Michigan, motor is a mix of ebay and cast off parts, seat from? pipes from another project, barrels from ebay, wheel hubs from one bike, disks from a different maker, etc. That's pretty typical around here.

Joey, the stepped pipes are an interesting approach. They don't flow the best but do act as an anti-reversion device. I would have used an intermediary pipe between the collector and the two tail pipes, but what the heck. looks cool.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

joey, man this thing just gets better and better and better. keep it up.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

Joe,

I wish you were still in Frederick so I could see this build in person. I dig the new pipes man.

Meerkat, this forum is all for people expressing their opinions, obviously not every build is going to please every member. However passive aggressive comments really have no place here. If you have actual concerns, voice them in a civilized manner and offer valid advice on how to go about fixing those concerns.

If you are a knowledgable builder, post up some info on your previous experience.

This board can always use another experienced member. Especially if you are willing to help out some of the rookie builders.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTOS!

There must be some kind of cultural comunication barrier here. Reading what I have said here I can see nothing that could give offense unless offence was beinmg looked for. As Justin says forums are about expressing opinions. I dont speak American so maybe thats the problem. I will dig up some of my work to post at some point.
Joey: No offense was intended. I like to see bikes that run. I like to see people with vision pushing the boundaries of mc design. Your work is exquisite, but for me personally, I prefer to work around a runner.
That said , I do have rolling frames in the shed that are waiting for motors.
Nuff said, can we all move on now so Joey can get his bike running? ;)
