Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
Great work on the fork lowers dude. And everywhere else of course! I've just caught up on the past few months and you are building the hell out of it sir. Love the seat. Love the exhuast. Love it all. She'll be amazing.

I think as many as you want, but after 10gb of bandwidth you have to start paying. I've had about 60,000 views and I'm at 4.3gb right now. So you must be close!
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
got any tips on shaving the lowers? Doesnt the material ruin tools? Every time I ever do stuff with aluminum I go through so much abrasives it's ridiculous.
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
Abrasives other than wet sandpaper probably isn't the way to go. Aluminum us somewhat smeary and gooey as far as metal is concerned anyway. It tends to gum up grinding wheels and such pretty badly. If you're looking to smooth out some fork lowers then a lathe is what you want...
If you're just taking off little portions like what Joey did then a hacksaw, a few files and some sandpaper/emory cloth should take care of it.
That is awesome Brother! I can not wait to see her with the rims on!
I have not been able to work on mine too much this week, I had a lot of work to do for the shop and some family things to do. I did take one of the forks apart so that I can start sanding, engraving, and polishing them, now that I have most of the large parts built I am going to go back and make them all pretty!
I took the bike back down to the bare frame so that I can finish welding and smoothing it and finish the engines internals and build the other intake manifold. I really want to get the frame finished and painted and the engine done and back in the frame so that I can start working on all of the detail work.
One of my oldest friends and brothers here locally has me ready to start my next personal build too!

Brother pawn I agree with what Brother Swagger already recommended, I use a cutoff wheel on a handheld grinder or a hand saw to cut off the large pieces, I leave extra material where I cut it and then hand file it to the shape that I want. After I get it shaped I hand wet sand it smooth. Make sure you wear protection when working with aluminum including breathing protection.
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
thanks Swagger and Joey. I've really only every shaped seat pans and flat items of aluminum, using a jig saw and having the blades gum up, and then using the grinder. I see exactly what both of you are saying. I'm contemplating shaving my forks as well since I run no front fender and only a drum brake (was originally a disc setup.) I'll take what advice you've given!
Thank you Brother, that really means a lot to me coming from you! I was going to start the boardtrack briggs bike next but I am ready to start building a vintage style full fairing road racer out of the bike I am getting from you!
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
Brother Justin I took her back down to the frame so that I could finish welding and smoothing the frame and paint it, I am also working on finishing the engine and building the intake manifold for the other side. I have finished building most of the parts but I am going back and making them all pretty now!
I have been really busy in the shop this week so I have not been able to work on her much but I should be able to get some work done over the next couple of days. Here is the drag car I have been working on this week, it is a tube chassis car powered by a 502 big block chevy.
That is not me in the drivers seat, it is one of my local Brothers who owns the car.
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! SHAVED FORK LOWERS
Glad to see things are still moving forward brother Joey, I have been so busy lately and have missed chatting with all of you guys. I hate that I have not had time to be on the site much nor have I had the time for working on Caroline, but I am grateful to have work and be busy. After such a long slow spell here and my wife being out of a job for so long, the business is a true blessing. I am still checking in from time to time, so keep up the work!
