Early vs. late CB350 engine

Hello,
I have a 1971 CB350 I noticed my bike revs out at 9200 RPM, while my buddies revs out at 10500RPM. Do the engine have different camshafts? Just wondering if the bikes have different internal parts. If they do, are they compatible?
Thanks
Marco

Type one cb350s (1968 and 1969) do have a higher revving cam. You can easily swap the head from an Type 1 onto a later model.

the earlier types have a different cam, and possibly different pistons, I've got a bunch of 350 pistons and some are simply heavier than others... a lighter piston would increase the redline quite a bit

i know the 69 heads are a hot item and rare, but are the lighter pistons readily available? or is it better to go aftermarket?

If you can afford it, aftermarket is always better. Theyve had 40 years to perfect them. And Type1 heads arent that hard to find. Just takes patience. Ive picked ones up from EBay for -$50.
