Throwing the idea out there, is it possible to ditch the electric start and have a kick start only bike? I have a 1972 CL175, i have both electric and kick start on the bike. What are yout opinions on this subject? Crazy, worth it, can it be done.
Folks do it all the time, drops some weight as starters are heavy. Not sure with the CL175, but you'll almost certainly need a plug. One of the counterarguments for removing starter is simply the easy of starting the bike while you're working on it with the electric, but that's not a big deal.
Just my two cents: I took the starter off before it was a runner (built from 'scratch') and kicking a bike while testing carbs and compression and everything else is a pain. If it already runs ditch it, saves a few lb's
Awesome tips guys, Thank you. I will most likely ditch it once everything is finished and it runs smooth. I would hate to try and kick it over to test compression and carbs. I would like to get rid of the weight and also some wiring. Again thanks for the thoughts.
