Electrical issues after mistake

hello,

I am currently having an electrical issue after a mistake I made (left the key in the ignition/on) which caused a coil to blow up and, i think, my electric ignition to burn out. Luckily, I have winter projects that will confirm the status of the PAMCO for me...

Anyway, after installing the new coil (just 1) and the new ignition, I am having a VERY hard time getting the bike to start... as in.. it doesnt. I can get the bike to start with starter fluid, but it cuts out immediately. I'm thinking both of the coils burned out when the ignition was left on, but cannot confirm, so I would like to know how to test that with a multimeter (if possible).

Also, is it even possible that both coils are shot from leaving the ignition on? It's my understanding that only one would have continuous power causing the burnout due to the other one being grounded.... but, i know nothing about electrical (or mechanical even lol).

The bike is 78 cb750k, and started fine prior to leaving the ignition in.

yes and no... Verified about a year ago when i tore the engine down and rebuilt it. Compression was verified as well when it started after the engine was put together. Is it possible that it could have messed up since then (i guess it is... there was an oil leak).

below is the last known video of it working lol. it was after a long sit and some electrical work after I got my key (the fateful night of death as well). I had to cut it off due to spark plug wires on the exhaust starting to burn...

here it is about a year ago prior to my key... This was all gas, no starter (after we got it started)

It seems to run fine there, so i'm assuming it's spark related

Timing and compression are both fairly easy to check and should be the first things done if an engine won't run.

A strobe should also give you a bit of an idea as to whether or not the coils are generating a decent spark.

sweet, sounds good. ill give it a check this weekend. you got my kill switch working, so i'm going to follow directions lol. I still have absolutely no idea what i'm doing

In the videos you have posted the bike sounds like it is only running on three cylinders. In the second video when it is revved up it should do it fairly quickly.

You just need fuel, spark and compression. Quick ways to test is stick your finger over the plug hole and have someone quick it over. If there is pressure then you should be OK. To test for spark just put the plug in the boot and lay it on the head and kick it over you should see it. Last is fuel you can unscrew the bowl screws to see if fuel is actually entering the carbs.

OK, did some work this weekend and got it running again.. bench synced the carbs and did an adjustment which seemed to work, but only on two cylinders for sure.. the odd thing is only 1-2 are firing.. 3-4 are not... I find this "odd" because the coils are 1-3 and 2-4, correct?

Had it running for 2 minute spurts due to confusion, but exhaust on 1-2 got piping hot (like dont touch hot, seemed a little hotter than they should be), 3-4 were cold. Pulled the plugs on 3-4 and they were wet. Disconnected aux fuel line and spilled fuel on the engine, so i decided not to check spark, but this has me worried about a compression issue. I also did not swap plugs due to time constraints.

What are you guys thinking? Any quick "well this is what's up" solutions popping up? I'll be checking spark/compression after work, just want to talk through it.

Also, should I move this to a different thread?
