Electronic tach issues still with dyna S SOLVED

UPDATE : finally i have solved my issue, please see page 3 for info

So I have a cb500-4 and recently purchased the koso T&T tach all in one unit. After installing it, and switching it to the proper settings, I noticed the needle was still very jumpy and when I was riding it wouldn't rev above 4,500-5000 rpm.( still having stock points ignition). So I contacted koso after reading about the tqch adapters, ( with resistors in them) so they sent me one and didn't help.

I just upgraded my ignition the other day to the dyna S and new dyna coils, besides updating the ignition I figured it would solve the issue. It did steady the needle but STILL won't rev about 5k ( it idles at the correct rpm so I know it's not getting half signal) before I call and deal with them again I was wondering if anyone has had the same experience and some helpful tips.

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

How is the tach pickup wired? Wrapped around a plug wire?

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

In line with one of the wires from the ignition pick up to the coil , specifically the blue wire.

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

I've tried wrapping it around the plug wire several times but the needle is super jumpy

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Are these the correct instructions?

Those are the T&T instructions

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

OK... sounds like you're going to want to wrap the pickup wire around the spark plug wire at least five times. Also, I'd consider adding a .1µF capacitor and a 10KΩ resistor inline on the pickup wire to smooth the signal.

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

The way I have it they recommend will work better than just wrapping it. But I'll try that again, will it matter if I have suppression core wires?

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

The blue wire on your ignition coil is the negative side, not the positive side. The instructions don't mention that at all.

Suppression wires shouldn't matter too much, no.

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Well if you hook it to the positive side on the coil (black and white wire) it'll just get a constant 12v and no actual reading

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Make sure the wire is wrapped around the plug wire as close to the coil as possible. Also, throwing a resistor and capacitor on in series isn't the proper way to filter. Unless you check the signal with a scope, you don't know what values/type of filter you need.

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Does the tacho lead cross any of the other plug wires by any chance?

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Wire, does not cross any other plug wires.

Update: took the tank off and wrapped the wire around the plug wire at least 10 times, as close to the coil as possible, still jumpy needle. Tried the 10k ohm resistor, still jumpy needle.

The gauge is setting for high and lo pulse. (Positive and negative) on high pulse setting its a jumpy needle, lo pulse gets nothing.

Still stumped

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

I'm working on a new product that should be ready in a week or two. It's specifically designed to allow electronic tachometers run on old bikes. Care to test it for me?

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

Iv just got the same speedo. Do you know if this a common problem?

Re: Electronic tach issues still with dyna S

It is a common problem. I've heard of it on several occasions.
