Real bikes are built in garages.
Well I guess it's time to come out and join the community. Been lurking here for awhile soaking up so tips and inspiration for my current project. I'm building a Cafe Racer out of a 71 CL350. So far I'm about half way through a total motor rebuild and hop up. I had two motors so I stripped them both down to the nuts and bolts to scavenge the best parts between the two. I got a set of S12 (3.0mm) NOS pistons off of eBay for $9. The cylinder is currently at a shop being bored out for me. By my math it'll raise the displacement from 325cc to about 358cc. I'm also doing an SL350 cam, Barnett Clutch (alloys, friction disks, and springs) Bore Tech electronic ignition, KA Performance cam chain slider, and a Tsubaki cam chain.. I think that's about it for the motor. Feeding it will be a brand new set of CB tuned authentic Japanese Mikuni VM 30's fitted with velocity stacks. It's all painted and waiting for the jugs.
Body wise I'm still planning some things. I have an idea for making some rear sets. If they are successful I'll post the formula. I picked up a set of nice 34mm XS650 forks complete with the caliper and master cylinder. Still trying to figure out how to mount them. Any help would be great here. The steering stems are so close in size but the XS is longer and a mm thinner at the top. For a seat I'm thinking this one (http://www.cafeseat.com/MediumCafeSeat.html). For the tank I may just stick with the stock for now. I might be able to get a CB450 tank though.
Anyway, just wanted to make myself known. There are a lot of folks doing great work on this board. Keep it up. It's very motivating. Thank you.
