Been Around the Block
Hey,
Rookie mistake, ordered a part because the manufacturer said it would fit....lol. measure twice, cut once.

I bought this Emgo key for my 76 CB550F, but it has the wrong end. female instead of male, and 4 plugs instead of 6. has anyone bought this? what are my options?

thanks

Strip the wires and touch until you get what you want. Only so many combos. Then solder the wires. Won't take more than an hour.

It really depends upon what that 5th wire is. You may want to twist it together with another wire if you are going to use it (for whatever function it serves since you didn't note the color and don't have a diagram). If you find a schematic it's easy to figure out the wires you want and need vs. guessing.

Just be careful with those EMGO switches - I had one for my XS650 for a while but the chrome switch mechanism came apart from the black plastic housing. Could be glued and slapped back together with electrical tape, but bottom line, the quality isn't great.

I replaced mine with a toggle on/off switch. Never loose my keys now :)

I think the extra wire is for the running lights. If you don't care about having your blinkers on all the time, don't bother connecting it.

awesome

my battery is dead because i left the key on overnight :(

once it is charged I will mess around with it until I get it right

thanks

For reference:

Red = power from battery.

Black = power to the system.

Brown = your tail light.

Brown white = Positive for the gauge lights

What color is the fifth wire?
