Enfield Tracker: War Pig Rennaissance

The rev count (cylinder number) pattern is maintained electronically, not via dip switches, and the default is half what I need. So just wiring it like you describe won't work unless I want to reset the tach every ride...tech guy told me to call him once I had it and he would guide me through doing something to fix that. We shall see...

Edit: Successful pre-work spin around the block this morning just now! Just gotta dial in the jetting and such now.

The pipe wrap really improves the look! Nice work.

Congrats on a successful test ride! I hope you feel better soon, so you can get out and enjoy your bike.

Thanks, man, I know it isn't the ideal solution but I can live with it for now. Appreciate everyone's help and comments.

Since you're thinking of getting a different pipe sometime in the future then I don't see a problem with pipe wrap now. It's probably too dry in Africa for it to rust away under there anyways.

Home, home on the range...

Thanks! I drew it out on graph paper and Ken Hosford, a member on the board, made it in alloy for a ridiculously low price. Tom McVay of MMW motorcycles made the mount to the frame, also for an amazing price.

In other news, was headed back out there this morning when I washed out...slow low-side on a corner. Not much damage to me or the bike, but I do need a new brake pedal arm and the primary lower front is pretty gashed up from the slide. Got some nice rash on my knee through my cotton cargo pants...illustrating the point that jeans just aren't gonna protect you in a fall.

I think I need new tires. The K70s I have once felt nice and tacky, but despite a lot of tread depth, the compound feels hard and plastic-y. Had me worried for weeks but I kept thinking that the tires just aren't that old.

But Indian weather, sea transport two ways, a Rhode Island winter outdoors, and Africa may have conspired to render them less-than-optimal.

Gonna get some new Heidenau K34s and give them a shot, I think. Also considering the Duro 308 (Perelli MT53 copy) but the Heidenaus have had me intrigued for a while, and at this point I want the best grip available. The AM26s would be great if I rode all pavement, but under local conditions, a block tread is best. Also considering a proper dual-sport tire, actually. (Edit: Heidenau K60 looks about perfect)

Oddly, I'm not that upset...I pretty fatalistic with this machine by now.

Wow, your bike is more well-traveled than I am. Great job making use of your resources, and the bike just looks awesome. Too bad about the spill! K60's should look badass, at least.

Thanks, man. I ended up going with K34s.

I'm still continually adding small things...P-clamps to hold various cables and hoses in place, re-checking the alignment of the carb and the head intake, running the speedo cable for an hour with a drill to get the odometer reading approximately correct, drilling and tapping a screw into my brake lever to replace some electrical tape that had been on there for about 2 years. (Filed the lever to reduce the reach long ago, but had to take up the resulting space somehow.)

Still gotta get the new tach on and a front fender rigged up, and most importantly look into the front end bearing setup. I may need to get new crowns and go back to the stock bearing cups to be safe.

Today the most important accessory was added to the mix, though. She approves of the engine mods.

That tail section looks really good.

Hey, so you think it's cool left bare alloy? I go back and forth on it. In the end, it's a minor detail compared to having a working bike, so it's not a big question for me right now...and I kind of like highlighting the fact that it's all handmade.

Bare metal is cool but I think it would look badass in black 8)

I reckon the alloy looks awesome. Shows off the quality.

Ohh and I nominated you for bike of the month, should have told you sooner. My bad.

Yeah, I think I like the alloy too...if I do paint it I will leave the overhang in the rear all shiny too...

But BOTM? On this POS ramshackle shade-tree mutt? Honored, but I think you is nuts!

(Great photoshop work, Max! Interesting. What would it look like color-matched if I may ask?)

Running steady and warmed up.: https://youtu.be/uNaU933y2fE

Sounds good. I packed the muffler because it was too damned loud running the baffle alone...Ace prefers to run them completely hollowed-out, but given the low end riding I generally do around here, max rpm performance isn't currently top priority.

You can see the oil mist blowing out the breather tube in the middle of the vid. That is supposed to calm down in another 400 miles or so.

Edit: this vid was taken after the bike warmed up on another ride with the kiddo. She asked last night and first thing this morning if we could go ride bikes again. And afterward, 'I wish we could do this all the time and never stop.'

Thanks, man! Looks intriguing. But I'll get to that level of detail once everything else is perfect, I suppose...right now I can sit on it and ride the bike, so it'll stay as-is...
