Engine Gaskets

They sell gasket removing tools or you can just grind the end of a file at a 45 degree angle and scrape the gasket off.

Ya I have sharp chisels but it's not doin much, wasn't sure if there is something you could soak the parts in or maybe something in spray form that will soften the gasket. Thanks

There is spray on gasket remover products at the autoparts store, but they are also a Hella paint spripper. I have best luck with gently using a single edged razor blade. My store bought gasket remover tool is a long holder for one with a screwdriver handle, but I get better control with just the blade. Finish off with cutting a small square of green scotchbright and Gumout carb cleaner spray to get the remnants.

Some very small bits wont come off with out gouging the surface, however it is very smoth to the touch. My razor blade slides right over it but you can still see some black specks. Will I be ok leaving it be?

Sounds like it's pretty minor to me, but if you are unsure, hit those spots with some spray carb cleaner and lightly rub with scotch-bite for removing the remainder.
