Engine help!

Ok guys, help/ advice time for me again. Currently stripping down a CB900fb engine. After doing the top end it all looked in such good shape I wasn't going to do the bottom end. However I am glad I did as in the bottom end I found a lump of metal. It belongs to the bottom half as seen in picture. How bad is this? How can it be repaired? Does it need to be? Total noob learning as I go along by the way so be nice but I was thinking of using JB weld?

Just a guess but it looks to me like that hole leads to an oil passage. Whatever you do, don't use JB Weld. If it comes loose it could get into something important and make a real mess of your engine. My suggestion would be to bear down and suck up the cost of getting it properly TIG welded back on. In my area, a repair like that might only cost $100 and would be well worth it. Every part in that case is shaped to move the oil around to where it's needed. If you omit that piece, you may have oil starvation issues later on.

I cant see an expoxy coming loose? Expoxy is used on commercial planes and I've seen a bolt expoxyed to a metal bar has held up to 12kg (28 pounds) which surely this component wont be subjected to? I have contacted a welder though.

First, you need to determine why this broke off to begin with. I am not familiar enough with this motor to say - does part of the cam chain guide system fit in that recess? Looks like something goes there. Perhaps something else went awry and got down there to snap off that bit of the casting, or caused the component that goes there to snap it off. I'm guessing the bottom end of the front cam chain guide/slipper fits in there and something happened to make it snap off that bit of the casting. Welding is generally preferred, but looks like a difficult spot, so find a good man to do the work. And inspect that gallery after the welding to make sure it is unaffected.

Find a broken engine and swap the case over. Might be cheaper than welding and if you choose welding, the case needs to be empty aswell..

Well the top cam chain guide was snapped so Im guessing it had something to do with it. Everything else looks spot on, taking it for welding next weekend to be sure.

I Cant really see a tig electrode reaching down there.. if i had to deal with this i would just weld straight over that hole though, and return it with zero warranties :)
