Engine Painting Questions

Hi everyone! Noob here. I checked out the Engine Inspiration thread and have some specific questions about painting the motor on my XV750.

-What's the best way to clean the motor after it's off the bike? Best way to cover the intake and exhaust openings?

-Is it possible to do a good job painting the motor without disassembling it, or is that pretty much mandatory? I want to paint the entire thing matte black.

-If you CAN do a decent job without taking it apart, how do most people handle the nuts and bolts? Remove them, or just leave them on and paint? Will that affect anything if I try to remove them later?

-Looks like most engine paints need to be cured by either baking or running the motor. How durable is it until the motor bakes it? Will the paint chip/scratch just trying to lift the motor back onto the bike?

-If the motor does need to be taken apart, is there a general price range one would expect to pay to have it professionally done?

Thanks in advance for the advice! I'm doing a XV750 cafe build (the 83187361823218th knock off of Hageman's) and want to get it right :)

im kinda in the same boat. im trying to find a good spray on cleaner. All i can really say is dont be scared to take the motor apart yourself to paint. Gasket kits are cheap and you really are going to want to remove the bolts before painting.

Hello
I'm doing same project as you guys. Just far away in Denmark.
My plan with the engine is to clean it with a steam purifier with all intake holes blocked of course:)
Then, the engine will be fitted with new rustfree bolt set, new clutch, plugs, gaskets, starter coal, carb repair, ect.
Maybe new piston rings if needed, and if I can find anyone, they are rare to find;/

When the engine is assembled, it's time for painting.
Engine covers polished, block silver and cylinder mattblack with glass blasted heads:)

Sorry for my bad English
