Ever get the itch for a "modern" bike?

I tracked down the build thread for this beauty!

Started life as a 1990 900SS. Looks like all they added were some knee dents to the tank, the tank was my big question mark. The rest would be pretty easy to fab up more or less. God I wish I'd never seen this thing.

best build thread. im thinking this style may have to be a next build either a duke ss, trx850 of w650?

I'm researching this Duc build. Early 90's 750/900SS are pretty reasonable with decent milage and good service records. Aside from the front fork swap and the very custom exhaust this build would be pretty simple and pretty inexpensive. My wife would fucking kill me though. I've just finished the 350 and if were to start another one.....

Only new bike I'd consider is a Kawa W800

After more research I'm really liking that w800. Google rumors USA release for 2013 but that's probably just crap.

How about modern-ish? You can't go wrong with a ZRX1100/1200. I even strap soft bags to mine and go camping. Tons of "go" and comfortable to ride. Fairly bulletproof.

It has a sweet engine, shaft driven cams. Only negative in my eyes is no kickstarter due to the EFI :( I would still have one hands down over a Triumph (and I'm a classic Triumph man!)

You could easily source one in the UK or Japan and ship it over, would be very unique in the US.

I think eBay international would be the easy way. I didn't realize they were so expensive though. 10k for that bike is steep. Plus eBay fees and stuff. Might look for an 01 w650.

I have had my Ducati retro SS dreams crushed buy a concerned DTT member. Thank you kind sir you have saved me a lot of money.

Let me guess. Swivel?

I would agree with that. I am finding that getting a garden variety Honda CL350 sorted out is costing a lot more than I thought.... and parts are CHEAP!
A vintage Ducati would get really expensive ... really fast.

Stepped into a triumph dealership today (one finally opened here in Vegas). Sat on a bonne a thruxton and a speedmaster. After wandering about I knew the bonne was for me. Talked to the wifey. She's in but added the caveat that the house we have up for sale should SELL before I buy a new bike. Cool with me. I'll just keep googling pics and vids and drooling over them till I get mine.

Already thinking of the mods I'll do........

<content sigh>

I've been slightly smitten with the HD 48. Never been much of a HD guy, but that 48 makes me consider.

Me too, but with a $10,500 MSRP there is no way in hell I would ever buy one. You can get a $3500 Sporty and make it look 98% of the 48 for under $5k. if you are creative, you can make it look better for even less. Plus I don't think that sportsters have very good resale, especially for a HD.

Thats exactly why im not riding one now. It's a hefty price tag. Given the cash, I'd still go for a bonnie.
