Excessive intake drone

Hi all.

Ive got a CD250u that has the same engine as the CB250.

I removed all the stock air box and such. Intake was noisy, I like the sound of air being sucked into a carb but this was a drone that sounded like I was running a cardboard box exhaust.

So I put on some filters, the same day I went with some slightly restricted straight pipes, which I decided was too loud.
Last night I welded a two into one and chucked a standard exhaust on thinking it was the straight pipes, the noise wasnt actually from the pipes, they sounded good it was the intake again.

Ive listened to a few bikes online running no fiters or stacks and they don't have the same intake noise.

So whats causing it? do I have a timing or carb balancing fuel mixture issue ?

any thoughts welcome, I can always get earplugs but thats cheating

I have found that aftermarket "pod" filters tend to make that noise. More so the cheap kind.

Best thing to reduce the noise is to fit the stock airbox back on, put a performance filter into it and add a few more breather holes for it. Should dull the noise down.

As for the carbs, I have only every worked on singles so I have no idea about carb sync.
