Far Out Engine Forms

I'm a pig, I'm A dog so exuse me if I drool.
I thought you guys maybe interested in engines of all kinds. Even the far out!

Read a neat article on "The Papp Engine" online.
It's an engine powered by explosive reactions teased out of inert gases.
and here's a link of someone who tried to build one of their own. Warning:: Video is of Very Poor Quality, Extremely Long, and Questionable Credibility, especially after his discussion on way he 'purifies the noble gases'. Psuedo-Science Meter off the scale.

It's fun to read about this sorta stuff.

--------
Josef, a draftsman and ex-pilot, emigrated from Hungary to Canada in 1957 where he lived until his death in April 1989, There is solid evidence that Josef built an engine of over 100 Horsepower (75 kilowatts) that was "fuelled" by a mixture of inert (or "noble") gases. With no exhause or cooling system, it had huge torque even at low rpm (776 foot-pounds at only 726 rpm in one certified test). Dozens of engineers, scientist, investors and a Federal judge with an engineering background saw the engine working in closed rooms for hours. This would not have been possible if the engine had been using fossil fuel. There was absolutely no exhaust and no visible provision for any exhaust. The engine ran cool at about 60*C (140*F) on its surface, as witnessed by several reliable observers. All these people became convinced of the engine's performance. They all failed to discover a hoax. Ongoing research in the United States (Totally independant of Papp) has proved conclusively that inert gases, electrically triggered in various ways, can indeed exploded with the fantastic violence and energy realse, melting metal parts and pushing pistons with large pressure pulses. Some of the people performing this work, or who have evaluated it, are experienced plasma physicists. Contemporary laboratory work has establisted that inert gases can be made to explode.

In a demonstration on 27th October 1968 in the Californian desert, Cecil Baumgartnerm representing the top management of the TRW aerospace corporation and others witnessed the detonation of the engine cylinders. In full public view, just a few cubic centimetres of the inert gas mixture was injected into the cylinder using a hypodermic needle. When the gas was electronically triggered, the thick steel walls of the cylinder were burst open in a dramatic way. William White, Edmund Karig and James Green, observers from the Naval Underseas Warfare Laboratory had earlier sealed the chamber so that Papp or others could not insert explosives as part of a hoax. In 1983, an independent certification test was carried out on one of the Papp engines. Joseph Papp was issued three United States Patents for his processes and Engines.

Anyone else look up or into weird engines?

Wouldn't it be neet to work on some far out stuff in the same vein. When I see some of this backyard scientist stuff, I instantly thought of the guys on this board, I mean there's been some awsome mods done. Frankenstein Bikes with Modern forks and other parts. Trying to imagine whats next? swapping in some funky engine?

Who's riding the first steam powered bike on the forum is what I'm asking.

I've often been accused of being a part time mad scientist. I like where you're going with this.

Googling 'The Papp Engine' now.

I love guys like this. A mix of old thinking (suck, squeeze, bang, blow) with a mix of scifi (inert gas exploding).

Yea, that source pdf has a whole slew of neet engines. I like how the guy shows the Patent drawings and information.

I guess everyone has heard of the "Super Carbureted" engines at one point or another, with the incredible mpg claims. Who better than us to take that a step further.

Here's one idea, and Toyota did this to a point with their smart braking system. But an electric vehicle that recharges its own batteries by harnessing some of the kinetic energy the wheels are producing. Essentially a car would have 4 constantly working recharge stations. Depending on the efficiency, your range could be near unlimited by recycling your own energy.

I'm only a backyard builder, but experimenting with a wild idea like this on an old bike seems like a perfect venue. A rolling CB/CL 200-350 frame is pretty light. Then just muck about with all kinds of fantastic experiments.

Along the lines of regenerative braking (which I understand some electric cars already use) A few guys are working on using the oscillation of the suspension to supplementally charge the battery banks as well. Neat stuff.

Wow, fix that is really cool. That is some really far out thinking.

Warped, I've been clicking through those pages on and off all day. that last link you listed is pretty wild.
All that stuff really makes you think.
Like I wonder whats going on with that dude in florida who made the salt water welder. That was a crazy news story a year or two ago. He was working on adapting it to his car, like a ford taurus or something along those lines. I'd love to know if he's still living.

Aw crap! I should have jumped on that. I thought of this years ago. Sucks when you don't have investors.

There's all kinds of info that seems to disappear. The Orbital engine was a great
idea that I guess Ford bought and shelved.

The thing that really gets me is a friend of mine runs semi's and he was telling
me that there is an engine for them that gets 10 mpg with a full load. I have
a Saturn that gets 35 mpg, but if the semi gets 10 the Saturn should get 60-70
no problem, wouldn't you think?

I've heard about the Papp engine on Coast to Coast AM, as far as I'm concerned anything I hear on that show is bulletproof solid truth. Amen

haha skuzzrat, did you hear it on the old art bell episodes or the Snoory version?
If its snoory its doomed. art bell its less doomed.

it is a fine line, but i specifically tried to avoid the wild over unity claims. The real stuff that's being built is for more interesting than that. the recycling energy from shock springs comes to mind. (Sorry to hear that you're not a millionare from that idea Dr. J)
That papp engine is pretty wierd, I find it interesting just reading up on it trying to figure out how it works.
