I would like to nominated my 1981 SR500 that Giannis of Speed Junkies Blog built.

First off, I love the bike. I have an SR500 project that I'll start sometime in the next year too. Great bikes.

Rules for nominations are that someone else needs to nominate your bike. Welcome to the site - looking forward to seeing more about your bike(s) in upcoming posts!

Well it did not take long for somthing like this to come along!

JRussel,
I don't want to be an ass but:
1. YOU NOMINATED YOUR OWN BIKE!
2. You did not build your own bike!
3. You nominated your own bike with your first post on this site!

Nice bike though, Do like it!
I hope you don't take it the wrong way but if you hang around here for a while you will see why I am saying what I am.

Good luck to you and Cheers!

The last post on Dave's build thread was posted on March 4, 2009 (around 25 pages back!), so many of you might not have seen this bike before. Here's the thread, FYI. Check it! 8)

Haha, as much as I don't like too many rules, guess there will always be that one self-serving doofus who wants to jump the queue. In the friendly competition spirit of BOTM, I suggest no one nominate this bike.

That's the best use of the word doofus I have ever seen. Good point.

Thanks for supporting my rant guys, I am really sorry I had to be an ass but come the fuck on, that was just a slap in the face to every hard working, greasy hand blue blooded, "real" member of this site! I really had to do it and when I saw that post I could not hold back.

I hope the guy desides to stick around, I am sure he wont like me at first, but the bug will bite him to build his own. When he is done, he will thank me! :)

Screeeech!

Crud...just noticed metaltriumph's KZ650 wasn't actually finished. I'm more than happy to re-nominate if that isn't actually the case - I've saved my original post. If you guys (and more importanly metaltriumph) are cool with it I'd still like to nominate this bike.

Cheers - boingk

Since I too am new here........ what exactly does "build your own bike mean". Is that like putting bodywork and handlebars on your bike and calling it "your build"...... or tearing everything apart, rebuilding all of it, laying up your own fiberglass bodywork, changing your own tires, painting everything yourself and making all your own mechanical modifications. I thought the point was having and riding cafe bikes. I don't see anything wrong with having someone else build your vision if you don't have the skills or time to do so yourself. I like to be heavily involved with building my own bikes and at least partially disassemble, clean, and repair every bike I redo. I have a painter friend who paints my bikes, a mechanic (certified) who will sometimes do jobs better left to a professional, and another friend who helps me with tire changes and sometimes wiring. He has a tire machine and I don't, so I do his carbs for him in trade. For sure, I seldom do an entire bike all by myself.... does this mean I don't build my own...... I like the street-tracker and think maybe the new guy just didn't read all the rules and wanted to show off his bike. Not making someone feel welcome even if they might not know or follow the rules on the first post will not help this site or our fledgling sport grow...... which I am sure we all want to happen......flame away boys.... that is my opinion and I am sticking to it......hahahaha....Dew :-* :-* :-*.

This is a friendly competition amongst gentlemen, not people who get all bent out of shape over a few guidelines. There is no material prizes, so why are people still taking this so seriously? Rules are simple, someone must nominate your bike, unsolicited (we can't enforce that but hopefully people will honour it). Geez Tim, you've created a monster.

Sheesh.... let's end this now. I responded immediately to JRussel, the poster who put up his bike as a nomination, clarifying the rules around BOTM (which are loose and few).

There's no need for any further response.

The reaction seen is typical of any community of close-knit well intentioned people like we have here. When someone drops in, and in their first post nominates their own bike as Bike of the Month... predictable reaction from the rest of the members.

The base-line rule for BOTM is someone ELSE has to nominate your bike. I don't care if you PM a friend and slide them $20 to nominate your bike, but bottom line, someone else has to nominate your bike. Then someone has to second the nomination, and you should accept the nomination.

Pretty normal stuff.

ANY BIKE IS QUALIFIED TO BE NOMINATED AND VOTED ON! I don't care if it's a 100 year old pile of miscellaneous parts in milk crates piled in the corner, or a completely stock bike you purchased yesterday from Harley Davidson. If another member on the board likes it enough to nominate it, and then another member decides to second it, YOU'RE IN!

Then it's up to all of us to VOTE.

Are we clear? :)

Sorry I feel I caused this rucus. I really am one for no more rules to be put on BOTM. I fired that post off in anger right when I read his post. I was not stating any rules for the BOTM, only what criteria gets my vote. I just think this is some net surfer who thought it would be funny to find some pics on flickr and see if he could use it to infiltrate our communities BOTM. I am not even sure he actually owned the bike! I know that even if he was nominated that our community would not vote it in, and thats why no rules are needed.

As far as "did you build your bike" I say if you bought it old and dirty, got you hands dirty on any process you could, and you made the final decision on all choices; then you built it! I know not everyone can or is willing to try to do some parts of a build, but this does not mean you did not build your bike. On the othe hand, if you saw a bike that someone else built and completed before you even layed eyes on it, you did not build it! If you bought an old bike, picked it up, droped it of somewhere and said I want a cafe racer in red; you did not build it!

All of this is just my opinion, you dont have to like it or agree with it!

.... and now back to our previously scheduled program....

I'd like to second shiznits75's CB550. A buddy of mine just started tearing into a 1975 CB550 and I'll have to show him some pics of this bike for inspiration.

Well, my post got bypassed in the mumbojumbo of what happened. Anywho, heres a repeat :)

I nominate metaltriumphs KZ650, 'cause its really, really damn nice:

I think I'm going to put yours in the voting thread just to see if you win. Then we can have your picture on your daughter's bike on our banner for a month, which will be viewed over 500,000 times ;) We'll make you famous!
