FG cafe seat

Here are a few pictures of the seat I'm working on.
I need to sand, prime it and paint it.
Also I need to sew the seat.
First time working with fiberglass. laying the FG was the easiest part.
I would like to make some more.

Started with great stuff foam. not a good idea. That stuff expands and shrinks even after a couple of days.
I shaped it one day came back the next and it was completely different shape.

FG on the bike

After it all done I'll post some more pictures.
Thanks,

Huh... I was thinking of doing my own FG for the XS... never thought of using expanding foam underneath... LOVE that first picture :D

Is the foam just for the process or are you going to leave it in as structure?

I had to put a picture of the uncut foam on the bike. ;D
it looked to funny.
Yeah, I just used the foam to make the shape. The hump is hollow now.
If I would do it over, I wouldn't use the foam. Clay or something more moldable would be better.
I have a piece of metal I'm using for the seat pan, and to reinforce the FG.

I was thinking of blue foam board (a little dumpster diving at construction sites maybe if it's too expensive :) )

That with a little dry wall mud, sanded down to 600, followed by some bondo will work well.

I have the FG mounted on the bike now (have to take pictures still)
I was lucky, I was able to use the stock lock and hinges by mounting them to a sheet of metal
I'm using to reinforce the FG. Now I need to make the cushion. I saw this boat cushion I might use to help stiffen up the stuff I
Have now.
Hopefully I will be done by the weekend.

O.K. I have a couple pictures of the bike.
I still need to make the seat, but for the pictures I just put the vinyl
on it to show the color.
I would like to paint the whole bike now. All black.

Looks good, but I need to change my turn signals bad! It looks like
a kid with huge ears. LOL

Lowered to front, but with the clubmans, I can only lower it about a half inch or so.

I need a new brake light too. Does anyone have any ideas what would look good?

WOW.. that looks great!!... Amazing job!!..
how about integrated tail/turn signals?

Thanks! it's far from perfect, but not to bad for the first time working in fiberglass.
Plus it is alot better than paying $200 + for one.
I like the way your seat turned out too. I want to add a number on the hump. Partly cuz it looks good, mostly to
hide any flaws. :D

That might work, but I don't want cut the frame and the turn signals are mounted on two tabs coming off the frame.
Do you thinkit will look strange to have those tabs sticking out without anything on them?
I was thinking of getting little L.E.D. signals to replace those monsters.

The light in the picture isn't mounted, so that why it is crooked.

Yeah, I put the 59 club decal there to hide the flaws in the painting and the spot welds that show through the paint.
Id didnt cut the tabs either on my bike. I think you can use those tabs to mount the smaller turn signals on and it will be OK

I cut mine off (see the barends stuck in the frame):

[picture is before the new shocks]

Thinking back, putting the signals there would have been cool too... But I really have no intentions of putting the bike back to stock... so I didn't really care about cutting the frame.

Plus my seat has a serious upsweep. So the frame stood out alot more on mine I suppose.

I like your set-up. If I can find the right brake light I think I will be fine.
I bought my some mini lights. hooked them up
and one row of the L.E.D.s don't work.
Pain in my arse!
