Hey guys, my name is Jason and I have really fell in love with the cafe style (and this site) over the last few months. I am finishing up school in Philadelphia and really wanted a bike to work on over this winter that I can have ready to ride for this summer.
A little background. I have limited motorcycle experience, although I have ridden minibikes and mopeds before (please limit your laughter!). I recently started shadowing and working at a garage near where I live and have learned a lot about mechanics that I didn't know before. While this doesn't all the sudden make me an expert, or even qualified for that matter, I thought I'd take the plunge and start learning about bikes by, well by working on one. I looked all over the web for a decent deal but either nothing was in my price range (<$1000) or it wasn't titled (something I have heard nightmare stories about for PA). A few weeks ago I spotted a craigslist ad for a '78 Honda CB400 in good condition, but not wired or hosed for $1,000. I pulled the trigger and am now the proud owner of that bike, title and all. Now for the fun part I assume.
The previous owner said the bike runs but needs a few things such as wiring for lights, horn installed, rear brake arm, and the gas tank cleaned. The guy he bought it from had recently cleaned and had kits put in the carbs and said I shouldn't have a problem other than the needles sticking a bit at first.
I am beyond excited to work on and learn from this bike (as well as all of you, which I have been doing for a bit now) but I wanted to show you all the bike and get some input from you all as far as what I should do first. I will note that I want this bike to be reliable and long ranging as I want to take some long haul trips. I will take any and all suggestions and I look forward to keeping you guys posted on this! Pictures to come
Cheers,
J
