First bike first project.. my 91 honda nighthawk cafe project

yeah bar clearance is great, better than my stock tank even, i think the shape of this tank is a bit narrower up front than the stock tank.

Sweet bike dude. Today's pipeburn has another dohc honda with what looks like the same airbox as yours. Is is stock for the nighthawk?

I've been scouting around for a bike to do something simliar to, but this is inspiring me to just do it to my Nighthawk, can't wait to see this completed. Have you saved much weight? What are you thinking about for rear sets?

No it's the stock Carb boots modified to fit 2 car cold air intake filters. These bikes don't do well with the 4 small filters straight to carbs because the 2 inner carbs don't pull enough air.
So this is a modded version of pod filters.

With the airbox stock exhaust lighter battery losing all the stock plastic its shaved a good amount of weight. Don't know how much exactly. Rearsets idk yet. The stock location is not bad at all so for now ill leave them be

still not complete but today i went for a ride, just paint left and some minor cosmetics

To send it out or to buy the paint yourself? I'd just buy the paint.

Do it yourself. Its not that hard if you are patient. You can have your local auto body supply mix the paint and put it in spray cans for you if you don't have a paint gun.

You can buy 2 pat clear in a can as well.

Nice work, can I make a suggestion on the seat. Will the frame allow you to narrow it toward the front? I think it will look better and be more comfy if you taper it to be the same width as the back of the tank. Since you can weld, cut 2 narro v's and bend it in then re-weld it.
