First build CB360, any help will be great!!!!!!!!

Moglix

cb360....
So after riding bicycles for years and now being carless figured I'd better make the next step, rode vespas for ages
figured this sort of build would be a good start??!!
Anyway, picked this up for the equivilant of 500US, running, got a wof and reg, all legal for road as is..... im in NZ
Needs wiring looked at, good tune etc, otherwise pretty damn straight
Plan on building a tracker/brat

Heres some pre shots, plan to change bars, grips, remove rev counter, led thingy, indicators, new seat, remove guards, pods etc.
Will need indicators, few other things to comply....

Question i really have at this stage is about tires. Have read the post on tire width, plus spoken to local bike shop etc.
Currently the front is a 3.00 x 18 ,the rear a 3.50 x 18. (what the tires say anyway, newb!)
I would love to run firestones 400x18s on it but is this going to work,
Local bike shop sells hell no, forums, and website say otherwise..
I'll be used mainly for city commuting 90% of the time....

Also any suggestions fire away....
* sorry for any naivity

Been away, quick update thus far.. changed bars, grips, sanded and painted tank, parts ordered have started to arrive, will attack and post pics soon...

Righto. between all the fucking earthquakes and shit going on here in CHCH New Zealand, I've been slowly making some progress, sorry for no posts but shits been mentl here, best thing is my bike survived all the big ones, only fell once, bent the rear brake was about that....
So heres some pics of whats been chopped off, change of bars etc.. Carb is apart, new needles, diaphrams and posd to follow... will be updating this more!!

So the camera that had more pics on it died in the quake so here is a photo of where at now, will try find some in between shots somewhere....
So I've cut and ground off most things I dont need, side cover mount etc, still have a few more to cut off. A friend fabricated up a nice rear curve and welded it
up. Still need to sort how speedo fits, indicators, new seat in progress and also battery bix etc...
Here is how it stands as of right now.... next step get my motorbike licence :) Learning a bit as i go, slowly but surely.... rode it post quake through all sort of shit, never missed a beat, cant wait to ride again!!!! need to sort the height of rear brake too. the metal stopper os bent ...

4.00 firestones are not very good tyres for the street or anywhere else. The other reason your bike shop said No way Jose is because they are rather wide for those OEM skinny rims. Forums are full of people that have done things but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a good idea - if you follow my drift.

Why not look at a set of On-Off road tyres like the Distanzia from Avon. Chunky and Off road looking but still work on the street. They may be too wide as well. What are teh widths of your rims? It will probably be stamped somewhere into the rim. Probably 1.85 front 2.15 rear or maybe just 1.60/1.85. That will give you an idea of what you can fit on those rims.

Yeah I know the firsetones feedback is shit, but being the first bike build I'm not too worried, therims are front 18x3.25 and the rear a 18x3.5..I chucked 18x400's on both,
I love the wrenchmonkee bikes and they do the same tyres to rims so I'm not worried, O spoke to them and they were helpful, told me what to run and thats why i went with those.

I'm only really going to use for city commuting, no big open road treks etc.. They make the ride heavier but still sweet.. Took on open for a bit at 100kph it was sweet, solid as!

Despite what people say I haven't heard of anyone ditching their Firestones for anything else. Usually if they do its to go to a classic ribbed style or chunky fat rear, but on anything but a cafe I think modern tires look silly...

Pheller, cheers, i agree too... even knobblys like above where an option but then wouldn't have suited what i wanted to try out... we'll see how they go once i've got the bike up and running again! but i wont be changing anytime soon, took 3 months for them to finally arrive in NZ

Mayyytttteeee, that's a sweet purchase for that price. You're tank looks sexy as.
So sorry to hear the shiet about the quakes. Hope all fam etc are ok and that the build is on a steady track.

Looking forward to seeing the progress!!

cheers smvirili, quakes are getting less and fewer between for now... its pretty weird though living in a city with no town... the fam is doing well!
Anyway, I've been having some issues trying to find some replacement slide diaphragms for this, both are completely knackered... Theres bugger all spare parts, yards round here so second hand ones are sparse, new ones I can only fin one in the country...
My question is for anyone who has replaced these in either way...

Am i better too..
a) replace the whole slide
or
b) get something like a sirius and replace just the rubber piece?

any help or links would be awesome, will chuck up photos of seat base tomorrow thus far too....

Still waiting for JBM replacement diaphrams to arrive, been a month and counting.... in the mean time anyone know of a nice top yoke replacement for these cb360's? Thinking i want to simplfy the cockpit even more, put clip-ons on this bad boy.... Figured options could be to shave down the exisiting one but it seems they're prone to cracking... I have a buddy with cnc access so might make one up??
Any help, direction would be great..

Have sort of gathered a little momentum.. Hopefully more to follow.. Heres the first stage of my seat pan. Alloy cut and rolled end, marine ply bottom so I can staple the leather to it. Before that though it needs a bit of expoxy through the cuts, and then sanding so it sits nicely on the frame, plus need to make cut outs so fits up to tank.....

Got home yesterday from work after posting those pics, to find that my replacement diaphragms have arrived!! FUCK YES... only took 5 weeks, but still stoked!

camera just died, but swapped out clubmans for clip-ons, took of triple clamp and cut of speedo/gauge mounts etc... time to file/sand...pics to follow

thought i had posted a pic of it coming together earlier, but they dont show... anyway heres a pic of the rear bent and welded up, bars etc...
Since this though I've taken the clubmans off figured they make the cock pit to high looking, want the line of top of tank be in line with bars..., put clip-ons, shaved down the triple clamp (thanks to those who helped with replys etc!) I'll photo next few days and add after Tues night, when the pods are going on, and hope to have running again...

Still to do... Sort fender, inidicators, cables, battery box, seat .. So at least another few weeks.... its getting warmer here.. hope to get going ASAP!! still need to sort the rear brake stop thing haha, the piece under bike got bent and is quite fargile, will need to weld in something else as it keeps bending, hence the brake is high
