First Build - CB750

I'm digging it for sure! I am stalled on mine at the moment while I do some parts collecting. One thing requires I have this thing and that thing requires this and blah blah you know how it goes.

Definitely giving me some more inspiration!

I can relate. This build has been going on for a year so far. I had to take 6 months off to get married, sell a house, etc etc

Note too self...I don't need to take it all apart! SWEET!

Those are killer grips on your friend's bike.

And hacking up OEM parts = bad? So the fact that I chopped up my stock seat pan...and another...and them bought a custom seat...ooops. And what about chopping off all of those tabs? haha. I and kind of mixed on this. If the bike is totally pristine, stock, and rare...maybe you should keep it as it. But then again, if you always have to work with a POS, then its going to be a PITA. Have fun designing and building what you love. We are all here to learn, share, and give each other crap as needed. 8)

There is an enormous difference between an old 500 seat pan and a unicorn upper clamp off an early 750. Don't cut up parts that are rare.. When you can use a different part off the later version of the bike that has little value and requires no cutting. I hate that that my upper clamp has the bar clamps still, and I would love to machine it... But the clamp is bigger than me and my desires. Just my 2 cents.

The bike looks cool. keep it up.

Installed all balls tapered bearings and put on the triple/bars/levers/clutch cable/clamp.

Took a break from mine to help a buddy replace pull cable, rewire the right controls, and replace grips on his cb550.

Sorry I am a little behind on the build. Good looking 550. I know its not your bike, but I'm curious if you know which clubman bars those are? Most clubmans I see with stock gauges don't look too good, but these look nice.

He bought the bike with those already installed so he doesn't know. I will see if I can find out.

I really like the low gloss you did on the engine. Planning on doing the same to mine. How many coats did that take? And how did you clean between all the ribs in the engine case and all the other little crevices?

Thanks!

The can said to apply all coats within an hour, 10 minutes apart.

I did two dust coats and a wet coat for the first pass, and then 3 more. Same on the frame. I hit it with a heat gun after each coat.

The prep was laborious. I used wire wheels, flap discs, toothbrush, sandpaper, etc. Brake cleaner, degreaser, and finally acetone right before paint. I used small wire brushes and pipe cleaners to get in between all of the fins. It's not perfect but looks pretty damn good. The cleaning and polishing took 2 weeks at about 1-2 hours a day.

Cockpit and controls configured. I need to order a dif push cable, the one I ordered would work with the stock housing but not the one I switched to.

Still working on a way to get that remote master cylinder and reservoir hooked up.

The bars are wrapped with some tape to increase the diameter before I add cork tape for a cushion layer, and then wrapped with the same fabric that the seat will be upholstered with.

My seat has been there 2 weeks with no progress yet.

Looking good....Need any parts for it to get it wrapped up?

I have pretty much everything, but some little bits and bobs

Real nice build. Props for all the photos along the way.

Thanks! I feel like I didn't take enough, and also my shop lights are shit so the pics are not great.

Thanks! This is one of the last few things I need to figure out. Still deciding on placement..

Picked up my seat from upholsterer. They nailed it.
