Hey everyone i just had a quick question. I am new to cycling and am in the market for a bike. I have pondered harleys because of the chopper looks, but then i came across cafe racers and feel in love. I just need to know what bike i should be looking for if i would want to convert it to a cafe racer. Thanks for all the help.Peace. ::)

depends on your budget.....if your looking for something cheap go for a cb400-cb750 xs650 maybe an rd350 (sometimes you can find good deals on them, and 2 strokes are fun)

if you want something more traditional then look for triumphs, bsa's, royal enfields, or nortons.

budget plays a HUGEEE role here

prob looking spending anywhere from 500-2000 for this bike. I dont want it to be in pristine condition or brand new. I would like some with a little wear and tear mabye with some mechanical probs that i could fix. I am going to customize it so rather turn something old to new.

look for honda's, yamaha's, kawi's, or suzuki's then.....if youre into 2 strokes you could probably find an RD for the "higher end" of your budget

for instance....this would be cool. idk where you are located but you can more than likely find something on the cheap in decent shape on craigslist.

Yea i live in Daytona Beach Florida so that yamaha is a little far away. But thank you for all your help! Prob going to look for a honda cb. Like the looks more thatn the others. Got any suggestions on the first mods that i should do?

honda cb350s are pretty cheap and great bikes. lots of mods. whatever you do, find something titled and running.

best mods are to get rid of weight. get rid of whatever you can... removing the electric start is a good 10 pounds with out all the wires. ditching the stock air box and covers can save you another pound or two... rear fender weighs a ton, as well as the front.

good upgrades include a front end off of a cb750 (disk front brake) and a set of good tires. electronic ignition does wonders, as well as ditching the stock, heavy, restricting headers and mufflers.

you can spend lots of money for a few horses, or half as much money to chop off 50 pounds.

bracing the frame and chopping off side cover mounts and things is a good idea also. look at the 50 dollar mod thread.

forcefanajd thanks for doin the work! i have seen the red one before....looking for a 750 now. But that green 71 900 is freaking sweet! no title but i am calling the guy tomorrow! tell you how it goes....

high miles on that 400-4... although their sweet bikes, id pass.

on the 350, its overpriced without a title. i got mine for 700, titled, in near mint condition, with only 5000 miles. keep looking. and dont be afraid to drive around. i probably looked at 6 different bikes before i found the one i have now. when its the right bike, youll just know.

Yea Rocan the guy was not willing to drop the price for the 350 so i passed. I even tried to explain how i would have to go get it titled and still nothing. Still on the look out thanks!

its easy as hell to get a bike titled.....go to a private dealership and offer the owner a couple hundred bucks to make you a dealer bill of sale, at least here you dont need a title to register anything if you have a dealer bill of sale, there is always a loop hole, or you could find a titling service out of wyoming or something.
