I got into it after work, poking around the easy to get to parts. It looks like someone welded a piece of diamond plate over the tire as a repair. Welds look okay, and its kinda Mad Max.
From there we see a very rusty battery box, which is why the battery is in the air box. The frame has a lot of small scratches and rust spots I think I can fix it.
Next we see under the points cover, very nice. Did not expect it to be so shiny inside. The alternator cover has hex bolts installed, I am pleased.
Now there is the rust you would expect from a 35 year old bike. I see a trip to the sandblaster it my future.
This is my tank... yeah, it is that ugly. The picture shows a dent that looks ripe for expanding into a knee dent. I scraped the paint on the other side. Looks like the tank was black, painted with latex brown house paint and then rattle canned a silver color.
The PO also installed some cheap pod filters that I do not like. Sunday I get down to the real work of cleaning those carbs out and stripping the tank. I drained the old gas out of it today, it was brown. Tomorrow morning I will drain the oil and go to the hazardous waste disposal site. They only take public disposal on the third Saturday of the month and you can only do it from until noon ??? At least I know that I can help the environment between the hours of 7:00am to noon one Saturday a month.
