They do make flat clear, y'know.

The problem with flat paint w/o clear is that it has a tendency to eat rock chips like nobody's business.

That said, it looks great!

I agree with you completely. without some sort of protection, its just a disaster. I would powder coat but the funds would be a little problem, especially since i gotta put a deposit and rental on an apartment im about to move into.

Although i did not know they make a flat clear paint. Ill most def. have to look into that.
Much appreciated!

Sorry Honeybadger, i miss read and thought you said something else. but flat clear chips pretty bad eh? if its that bad, i might as well just leave it so touch ups can be a lot easier.

I wish!!! It's got a jh 8v from a mkI GTI.

Sorry for the thread jacking.

Haha no worries.
yeah mines still got the 8v but i put a 285 kent cam so its a little lopey :) Hoping to put some R1 bike carbs on it.
My cousins is the red one somewhere in the pictures and he swapped a 16v.

I got the corners welded in and grinded out. There is a hair line crack but i dont think it will be anything serious. If you think its something i should weld in and grind again, let me know.

I had to cut the back bracket off if I were wanting my battery and tail light to fit in the seats hump.

I haven't been working on my bike lately because of finals week. Now that I'm done with classes I'm
getting ready to move so progress on my bike isn't going as fast as planned. And to add to that,
the weather has been complete shit.

What progress have I made in the past couple weeks? I put a couple bolts on my bike ::) ... What I'm
trying to do is weld the ends of the bolts to the tail so when I lift the seat it pivots back.

As far as my tank goes, I welded the bottom up with no leaks. All that remains is welding the top and
grinding the welds flat. (Last time I used an angle grinder I didn't have ear plugs. Lets just say my ears
didn't stop ringing for 2 days ;D )

sweet man. Just caught up. and i gotta say... This thing is gonna be sweet.
Thanks! For not knowing what exactly I'm doing, I'm having quite a bit of fun ;D

Allllright, Got this battery for $20 and it works great for my bike. when connected and grounded, it turns over relatively fast
and its fairly light. I do have a question; This is a sealed battery, is it something I can lay down on its side?

An Update to the seat, I tacked the ends of the bolts to the tail.

This is the taillight that I'm planning to hook up.

The top is finally getting there! The reason I cut short is because I actually ran out of gas  .

This is my friend on a visit. He stepped in and helped weld.

Cool, moving right along. I like the way the tank is gonna look.. Its gonna be fantastic after you grind it down and repaint it. Keep up the pace man. and if you have any questions we are all in this together so ask away!

Thank Blake! I'm trying to shape the way I had it in my head. Previously since the tank was stretched, if I were to follow the curve of the tank, It would get really small at the rear. I didn't like it so I cut and weld the 3 lines near the gas cap and raised so when I follow through, it will give me a "bulkier" end. Its surely a work in progress.

Well since I ran out of gas I needed a refill/exchange. I was borrowing it from my cousin so I asked where he got it. He said it was his works and the original price for a 4 foot tank for Argon/CO2 would cost $170. But he said I didn't need to worry about it considering he gets free refills at the foundry. ;D
All I gotta say is I love having connections ;)

Picking it up tomorrow afternoon hopefully so I can finish the tank.

Looks great. I want to find myself a CB 350f or 400f. Love these little bikes. I'd leave the modern can. Just gut the internals and maybe mount it lower on the bike.I've got two r1 cans I'm gonna use one some future builds.

Totally unrelated.... Can we get a better pic of the wabbit? I have a couple vws in my stable and i actually just converted a 16v to run on carbs!

bike looks good by the way, you have helped me figure out how im going to make my seat from my extra 350 tank!

Keep it up

I don't have pics of my car for some reason so I'll get some tomorrow when its light outside.

Thanks damccain, once I get everything painted and looking the way I'd like it, I'll post pictures with the can on and off and have DTT debate whether its something I should keep. I may also do sound tests as well (If theres much difference  ).
