So, i have my bike completely apart, and am in the process of getter er built before riding weather comes along. I removed the electric start and most of the electronics to reduce weight, and i was wondering if i need a battery anymore since there is no electric start??

Yes, but not the same size battery you had before. Look at the "ah" of the original. You could probably get away with a 3ah if all the remaining lights are led's and your headlight is 35 watts.

Yes you need one. I bought a 7ah battery and it works perfectly: (CT7B-4(YT7B-BS)). Your battery is to absorbe the supplement of electricity that your generator produce.

I plan on having led taillights and the oem headlight, not sure about the wattage on the headlight

I have oem front light... and Led taillight drain less that usual taillight so you should be ok with 7ah. Going less will be a try and see... but you'll ask for trouble ;). Some got runing a 6... even 5... but I wanted something reliable.

thanks joe!! i think i'll do something similar to the battery you posted earlier. Ever look into light weight batteries?

The battery doesn't so much absorb surplus electricity, but supplies power when the revs are too low to balance the load.

At idle for example alternator output is very low, but you will be running Ignition lights and maybe the stop light and blinkers if you are sitting at a stop sign waiting to turn. The bike is using more power than it's generating. At higher speeds it all balances out.

The battery has to large enough to deal with those high load, low RPM situations and not boil when you rev it up.
