fitting an ammeter and oil pressure gauge?

hey guys I have replaced the old ignition barrel on my mz with a more modern Suzuki item. the old one was mounted in the headlight in front of the speedo. so what to do with the hole?

I have an old ammeter and oil gauge that I salvaged from a boat. I'm thinking maybe I can fit one in the headlight to cover the hole where the ignition sat, or even fit both gauges either side and fit something else in the middle?

I tried testing the ammeter with the 6v gel battery, plus to plus and minus to minus. sparks, smoke and the needle shot off the gauge. not sure what that means? and is it a big job rigging up an oil gauge to an engine that never had one in the first place?

that is not how an ammeter works

the ammeter is hooked in line with the main charging positive that comes out of the regulator before it goes to the battery

all the current must go through the ammeter

the only reason it would have a - is to ground the running light

go to stewart warners site and look up the wiring diagram for that gauge its more work than you think

have you ever seen the electrics on a mz ?? doubtful it would even deflect the needle on the amp gauge

maybe put a volt gauge there

thanks for the advice guys, i'll keep an eye open for a voltmeter to fill the hole instead. thanks again.
