Fixed my CB450's taillight, now it doesn't run.

OK so I was finally able to get my '73 CB450 tagged, titled and insured. I was giving it a "once over" to make sure everything worked for inspection when I noticed the taillight/brakelight wires were disconnected. I hooked them back up and checked the light, which now works fine. The brake light wasn't coming on at first, but a little bit of fiddling with the brake light switch seemed to fix that. So I fired her up for a spin around the neighborhood, she started fine and ran smooth until I switched the headlight on, then immediately sputtered and stalled. Started her up again, ran fine, hit the horn button and she started sputtering again. Any electrical accessories, turn signals, brake light, etc. make it want to stall when it's running. I disconnected the taillight wiring and tried again, started with hesitation this time, and still bogged and stalled when I hit any electrical. Figuring the battery might have drained, I put a tricke charger on it and let it charge overnight. Today it still wont start, even on a full charge using the kick start. I don't know enough about motorcycle electrical/ignition systems to diagnose the problem, other than there's probably a short in the taillight wiring. But not starting on a full charge with no accessories on? I'm a little over my head here, if anybody with more electrical experience than I have would care to offer up some help I'd sure appreciate it.
