Flasher for LED signals?

Been Around the Block
I was just going over all the parts i need to finish the bike up and I realized i dont have a signal flasher. The only problem is all my signal lights are LED, so a regular flasher wont work. I donno why i can't seem to find much, on ebay or whatever. Id love some suggestions for one. I just dont wanna, buy something that wont work, also don't wanna spend a ton of money.

Thanks guys!

Kragens, Autozone, O Reiley's, etc which ever you have in your area carries flashers for LEDs. They are not too cheap though, about $40.

i know u can buy them for led but what i did was got a regular flasher and had to put resistors on them because they would flash to fast...you can get resistors for about 10 bucks plus the flasher

I got mine from Autozone. Small plastic 2 wire thing. Cost about 10 bucks IIRC. Works great with 2 LEDs connected or all 4 or even 4 plus integrated tail light.

Resistors aren't actually easier. They need to be rated for the correct load which bumps the wattage back up to normal turn signals (negating any gains from leds). And they also get crazy hot if you have to sit at an intersection with your signals on.

Just about any auto parts store should have a low/no load signal relay.

I used SuperBrightLEDs.com with great success and no problems at all. Click the link and scroll towards the bottom for LED Flashers and click on the cycle style. $8.95+ shipping.

fantastic! this is exactly what i was looking for! now can anyone who knows their electrons tell me which version to buy? i just have NO idea what these codes might mean...

The differences are only in the wire terminals, the "Pin" is bullet connectors, the "Flat" is small blade connectors, and the "EB" is bare wire ends.
Go with the bare wire, then you can add whatever connectors you want. The only thing you have to remember is that they only work one way, so if you connect it and it doesn't flash... reverse the wires ;)

If you're feeling really project-oriented you can build one from a 555 timer. You can get all the necessary stuff from Radio Shack. It's a fairly simple circuit. Wire in a potentiometer and you can even adjust the speed at which they flash...
