flat backed taillight + round tail piece = mounting issues

Hi there,
I just bought a sweet round tail light off a vintage car (can't remember the brand) for my cafe project. Trouble is that I can't figure out how to mount a flat backed light on a curved surface. I've seen a couple bikes here that have the same kinda thing going on. How do you mount your lights in fiberglass tail pieces when the mounting location is curved?

You have a pic of the light and tail? I have a round tail and a flat circular light and it mounted with no issues. However, I when I made the tail I made the curvature to fit the light so that it sit correctly. Not sure if that makes sense to you. On mine the lens is on the outside of the tail and the light housing is inside. Let me know if you need any pics.

I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but if i had that problem i would just cut a hole into the tail to allow the light to sit inside it as flat as possible ;D

well... how far off the seat is the farthest part of the light? you could always just wrap the light in some aluminum foil, mount it, then use some body filler to plug the gaps, remove the light and blend it into the surface, that'll work for maybe 1/4" but not more
