Float bowl gasket.?

jonwright

surfing and motorcycles.... yup
cb360. i have two sets of float bowl gaskets, they both seem much to big, one set was what came off when i pulled of my float bowls so i knew they fit at one point, the carbs had just been rebuilt and gaskets are in perfect shape. the other set of gaskets i had are brand new. anyway. i try to fit them in the grove of the float bowl and both sets are like way to big. whats going on? i taped this one in place to show you what i am talking about. is there something i am missing? help me out.
thanks

just saw a post from crazypj on caferacer.net that said to use "5 dots of Permatex Indian Head gasket shellac compound" it still dont see a way to make it fit even if it is tacked in place thats kinda what the tape is doing right?

Cut it to fit then use the gasket sealer to stick it back together.

Yeah,
There's several ways to do it.
You can use Loctite 404 (cyanoacrylate and hydroquinone) to stick it together, or Krazy Glue (cyanoacrylate) or a good sealer.

Make sure the ends are a perfect match and the length is perfect. Cut it with a razor blade.

Yup - just cut them. They're not the right size. I've not had to do this myself - I use Mikuni VM carbs which have paper gaskets, but it's a reasonable idea and its not like these gaskets are under pressure. They just keep gas from leaking out when its sloshing about in the bowls while riding.

One thought would be to put the seam on the opposite side of the bowl from the low point when the bike is on the kick stand.
