Forced to move with short notice

Last wall just about done, time to start trimming out at last!

Garage door rails done, I'm doing the install myself

Doors are fully hung, now I need to figure out the retractor springs, cables & pulleys (I made notes before removing them from the old location)

Trim-out in progress, starting with ridge cap & front gutter

All door trim, gutter, and downspout done

It started to look like rain, so I ran to the hardware store to get a handful of tubes of NP1 caulk, knowing the base trim needed to be sealed at the west wall, to keep the sloped sidewalk from draining straight into the garage. I got done caulking right as the first drops started falling, a bit too late. I think there is a joint in the base trim, because the rainwater came in (slightly slowed down). More work to do, but it's ALMOST there.

Also found one significant roof leak, at the crown with the old building. I need to investigate...

So here is the punchlist as it stands:

PRIORITY (Sub-Contractors)
Demolish old slab & haul off rubble
Remove all old parts, metal scrap, trash & debris to recycling center & dump
Remove, sort & stack all leftover building materials to side drive slab
Saw off 4x4 posts from lean-to shed roof location & remove to side drive slab temporarily

That will totally clear the encroachment. However, It's raining now, and forecast is for it to continue all week...

NON-PRIORITY (Sub-Contractors)
Finish trimming garage (top trim on east wall, corner trimming, roof leak)
Complete front driveway slab form work, prep & pour slab
Trim out fences (tie wires, backfill post holes to grade level), adjust all gates
Erect shed roof at shop back door location

PRIORITY (Me)
Self-leveling compound to eliminate puddle & base weepage @ west side of garage
Install lighting in garage
Re-Install security alarm door contacts
Install suspended shelf (extended?)

NON-PRIORTY (Me)
Install garage door motors
Order replacement sensors & bits for door motors
Apply Garage Floor Sealer and allow to cure fully
If sufficient materials remain, build roof over side drive @ block building

MOVE IN!

Looks great. My brother and I each gained a 1970 Roadrunner from a similar situation. Our grandmother decided to move into my aunt's house and sell of her piece. Our old man had less than a month to find storage for the Roadrunners and a '71 Cuda. He only had room for the Cuda, so he offered the Roadrunners to my brother and me. Not a bad deal. Two years later, he's finally expanding the shop like your doing. Hopefully, he doesn't ask for the Roadrunners back. ;)

Demolition guy showed up with his John Deere backhoe and got right after it. He gave the slab a few smacks with the backside of the bucket, lifted it by one corner and snapped off what must have been a half-ton chunk like it was a cookie

Just a few minutes too late, one of the other guys started making the sawcut on the property line

411107799.jpg

Unbelievable what a good machine can do in 20 minutes. It wouldv'e taken a guy a day with a sledge hammer just for the flatwork, forget the BEAMS!

Footer beams are massive, with (4) 1/2" rebar and stirrups every 18" or so...

411107801.jpg

The footer at the east end is at a lower point on the grade, so it was even deeper!

411107807.jpg

Some of the detail demolition will have to be done by hand. When the backhoe started lifting the building almost an inch without the beam giving, I called him off. What a mess.

That section of footer probably weighs a ton. The backhoe lifted it like a taco

411107802.jpg

DID SOMEBODY MENTION TACOS???

411107804.jpg

If he would let me drive, we would be done by now...

The slab cracked nicely at the expansion joint

411107805.jpg

...not so cleanly at the sawcut (lower right)

Everything in this photo will be hauled off to the dump or scrap yard

Shop corners capped, but not yet trimmed out. Thankfully the rain held off

411107811.jpg

Still a little bit of trim-out work to do, but it's almost done

411107815.jpg

Same for the new garage, the corners where the new roof meets the old one need to be carefully trimmed out to make them watertight

End of a long day.
