Forever learning the hard way!

Been Around the Block
After 17 years of wrenching on all things mechanical I finally sent myself to emerg. The short version, replacing a rocker on my truck all went well and it's all spot welded in. I'm covered in the usual debris one accumulates after a fun filled afternoon of welding / grinding / welding repeat. Head inside to get cleaned up to go out and my right eye felt a bit gritty. Fast forward to today and I just spent 4 hours in the er so that the doc could spend 20 seconds drilling, yes drilling, the mild steel out of my pupil. Wear your safety glasses boys and girls it was not a pleasant experience.

Shit! If there wasn't a hard way I wouldn't have learned anything at all!!

Plucking crap out of your eye is not a lot of fun. The last time it happened to me I use a small but strong magnet to fish out a piece of metal from my eye. There was no way in hell I was going to sit in ER for hours.

Hope you're OK and heal up quickly.

As always. I've even been thinking about getting a mask for grinding. The amount of shit that comes out of my nose after an afternoon on the grinder is amazing.

i had to have eye surgery this year for metal saving in my eye that began to rust... was a mess we all wear glasses now full time in the shop

Oh yeah, how gross is that! Huge black bogies.

i got one of the cheap full masks Harbor freight sells for like 3 bucks.... have those at all our grinding stations, and by our chemical tank now... they work awesome and are super cheap!

You guys and your harbor freight. We've got nothing like that over the pond.

your not missing anyting, alot of that stuff is CRAP, but safety glasses and things like that are nice!

Actually, we do have a place down the road from here owned by a funny old dude. It's called "Hong Kong Hardware". Real baragins to be had, you get the idea.

You are most definitely not missing anything. 99% of their stuff is crap. But its cheap and if it works once you got your moneys worth. Although the 1% does tend to be good. I bought an angle grinder a fe years ago and have beat the shit out of it and its still working.
