frame switch 1976 kz400 to 1979 kz400

has anyone ever put a 1979 kz400 frame on a 1976 bike?
will all the parts transfer over without any problems?
i like the fact i would be able to have my single carb setup pointing starit into the manifold.

When you say "will all the parts transfer," what parts are you talking about? Are you hoping to transfer all stock parts, or are you modifying the bike at all?

I imagine the important parts like front end and swing arm won't be a issue. But smaller parts like battery box and stock air box probably won't. But based on your reason for the switch, you probably won't be using those anyway.

Check out kz400.com for diagrams. That information will help.
 
Are you doing this because of a title issue? If so, there are much easier ways to take care of that...

How do you put the frame of one bike onto another? Do you mean transferring all parts off one bike to another?
If so,swingarm, triple clamps, engine except top mount on rocker box breather bolt up. Tank might, seat maybe
different at the mount locations. Electrics will have to be sorted because of different charging system. Head pipes
all bolt up, but rear muffler mount changes. Center tube gets in the way when the new style engine is used. That
includes the "79-"80 400 along with the 440. The newer head has the carbs closer together. On the pic below
that crossbar on the carbs gets in the way. There is 4 5/8in. from that spot on the down tube to the head.

I just like the open area where the stock air box would normally go.
it is wide open and no frame backbone to get in the way of a single carb intake and carb setup.
I currently have a 11th hour single intake that they made with a 45 degree at the carb instead of the 90 to cut down on some of the angle issues of the air fuel mixture coming in.
I just thought it would be good to be able to make it a strait shot into the intake.
really no other reason than that other than it looks like on the 79 you have a little more room to get the motor out if you need to.
 
Just stick with what you've got. Unless you have a ungodly time trying to tune that 45 degree single carb, "switching frames" would be much much more complicated.
