Fresh fish from fenix... Laying my roots before a new build.

My name is Brandon Bird, I'm 30 and I live in Scottsdale AZ. My wife and I have a 5 yr old son and I own a small business out here dealing in botanical supplements. My hobbies include piano and motorcycles...which don't sound like they go together but I feel like one frequently inspires the other. About a year and a half ago I quit my 9-5 and went full bore on the company I had started in 2009. Since then I've been a very busy man working very hard, enduring all manner of social and economic savagery and about 3 months ago I had an epiphany. The rat race has got to be for a reason, doesn't make sense for it's one sake. Like a slap to the face, I realized what I must do and grinned a deep grin. I emptied the safe into sandwich bags and that became my new motorcycle and customization fund. A week later I had acquired a very well kept 79' CB750 and began to chart a course.

I've been riding for about 8 years. In that time I've had 3 bikes but I haven't had one for almost 3 years until I picked up the CB. It was a part of my soul that atrophied in exile. It took me a long time to make it back around to this adventure but I'm more excited about this build than anything I've done in a long time. I've got a lot of fire and drive for it, will be doing things the right way with the right parts and tools. Thoughts of my completed brat/café keep me awake at night where I would already be sleeping peacefully if not inspired. Also, starting a family and new ventures tend to diminish the dynamics of one's social life. I only have one good friend that rides and he couldn't change his own oil. Getting a new project bike is a great start but I also need some new racer pals to geek out about bikes with. No man should be an island. Here I am all alone building motorcycles and watching old black and white board track races thinking its great, I'm probably alien at times to some of my best friends.

I've stalked this forum a little bit and I like what I see, some really top tier builds have come out of your garages and it seems like people keep it civil and productive. I'm looking forward to chatting with y'all.

Thanks Yorkie,
Ya, I am looking forward to the impact on my son. I grew up with a dad who took the time to show me how to work on my own vehicles and teach me some level of technical ability and I want that for him. The other day (Lets tell my wife this is made up) after begging for 2 weeks I took the kid on my CB750. He's only five, feet dangle no where near any pegs and he sat between me and the tank. He's honestly a bit of a fraidy cat for a young boy and I figured it would stop being fun for him real fast but instead he was shouting for me to go faster the whole time. I still figured it would be too much when I twisted the throttle. The 79' CB750 K was one of the few years with the most power, roughly 79hp which only ever went down from there. For an old dinosaur the thing is damn quick. I floored it and he loved it. He's hooked. He asks for another ride every day, talks about the motorcycle constantly. In fact, his school is just a block away and I'm considering fabricating high set pegs so I can drop him off at school every day. No son o mine 'll grow up without an appreciation for bikes.
