Front Breaks adjustment pads stinking to rotors and bike drag need help

Hey! Do the ton: I just rebuild my front caliper, I got it to bleed and I also adjusted the pivet the holds the caliper, but without the bike running I push the bike forward to see free play on the wheel and caliper and the
breaks feel like they are on without me rabbing the brake lever , do I also have to adjust hand lever screw, because I did not
touch that part off the break. Raul N.Y.C. Thanks

As you may have seen during your rebuild the caliper has 2 brake pads. The one on towards the inside of the wheel is stationary, it doesn't move. The one on the outside is the one with the piston that moves the pad in and out. You may have pushed the caliper too far out and the stationary pad is now touching the disc. Adjust the pivot arm that the caliper is mounted on until the stationary pad clears the disc until it doesn't touch it anymore. Assuming you did a good job of cleaning the piston and it moves freely in and out this should solve the problem. I'm not sure what the lever screw is for unless it's to adust the reach but that has nothing to do with the calipers. I'm not aware you can adjust hydraulic brakes the way you can adjust cable brakes.

Rusty/Nasty/Old/Pitted pistions are known for making the brake pads drag on these bikes.
Take the pistion out and clean it with some fine steel wool. If it is bad replace it.

Proteal Thanks for the reply, but I rebuild the caliper with new pads , I did not replace piston, because it looked good considering that the bike is over 30 years the piston looked O.K not rusty , I clean for with brake cleaner and used a fine needle to clean the dry grim that sticks to the inner rim of the piston I also applied a smear of silicon to the back of each pad.
I think that I did not unscrewed the screw on the pivot that holds the caliper all the way out, I will look into it this weekend
and post the progress. Thanks man Raul from floral Park long Island cb750 forever .

P.S. Love that new bike you worked on ,Im a big fun ....

DrJ Thanks man I will look at the pivot and readjust I think that is where I screwed up , will give up dates soon .Thanks for the fast reply.
