Front Rotor - CB550F... how glossy?

Shooter

Been Around the Block
I fitted a drilled front rotor to my CB 550F. (It is very shiny but oil free)

I have aftermarket brake lever and master cylinder, braided line, new pads, reconditioned and restored original calliper.

I am wondering how glossy everyones front rotor is or should be.

I am considering getting it lightly abraded to get a little more friction and effectiveness. Is this good practice (idea) or not?

If anyone has pics of their rotor...please post.

they glaze over time, roughing them up will increase friction, just don't create dips... you can get them machined for a few bucks by people that have tools set up to do that

I had them checked by brake specialist today. They are not glazed evidently.

Guy said I should try a different brake pad. EBC FA103 were recommended to me

Wondered what brand and "model" others are using in CB550F

Anyone know if the 78- 80 CB550 have the same calliper (pads) as 76/77 models?

Old race trick. Glass bead the friction surface. It cleans all the old particles of pad out of teh surface and closes teh pores. And it leaves a nice satin look.

That should be done to any disk, every time you fit new pads.

early model CB550 had swing arm caliper and round pads.
Late model CBX550 have inboard discs which are completely different
I like EBC pads, FA103 sounds familiar, don't know if you can still get HH sintered metal version any longer?
Genuine Honda are still available and work good, you may be able to find Ferodo if you get lucky.
You can de-glaze rotor with sandpaper glued to old pads, the rotor should not be shiny

Whoa I like that idea. What size glass bead are we talking about? Can this be done effectively to drum linings?
