front sprocket "stud"?

Not sure what to call it. I'm replacing the front sprocket on my KZ400. The one on there has a cylindrical "stud" pressed into a hole in the sprocket, but the new one does not. What is the purpose of this part?

Thanks,
Bill

Pics of both may help your cause. Sorry I don't have an answer for ya though.

The KZ400 has an automatic kickstand. That stud, when moving, will contact a plate that causes the kickstand to rise.

If you can remember not to drive away with the kickstand down, you won't need it.

That was well remembered.
Last time I saw that was about 1985~86 and had totally frgotten about it 8)

GTF outta here. I've heard of bikes that won't start with the kickstand down, or maybe it's that they shut off if you put it in gear with the stand down, but I've never heard of one that retracts the thing.

It's like the electronics industry took over motorcycling in the 1980's. Everything you could do to make the bike less enjoyable and more complicated, they did it.
