Funny dropping bike stories

Everyone has them...no one wants to admit it!!! Here's the chance to let it out! We all do stupid shit from time to time.

Mine just happened now...

Was outside having a smoke when a coworker starts asking me about my GS. he never rode before so I was showing him how it works (you can see where this is going...). A hottie walks by and she trips a little on a crack in the pavement, and I say "it's ok, no one saw that..." She smiles and keeps walking.

So back to the conversation with my coworker, he asks "is it loud?"... I say "Not too loud....here, ill show you". I hit the start button....and the bike is in gear with no clutch switch. So it falls on it's side.... (Luckily no fancy paint job here, so I wasn't too concerned)

Then....off in the distance you here the hottie...."IT'S OK....NO ONE SAW THAT!!!!"

I started cracking up!! Embarrassing or not....it was funny!

That is thoroughly embarrassing!

Ive never just dropped it for no reason, I have gotten really close but always have recovered.

I did however once set my bike on the kickstand with it running on a hill, it vibrated to the point where the kickstand gave up and it fell over cracking the side cover and sending oil everywhere all over my driveway.

My best one was when I rode down to the local grocery store to pick up something the wife forgot for dinner. I was in a hurry so I pulled into the first spot I saw, turned off the bike and hopped off and turned to walk into the store. Bike fell over because I didn't put down the kick stand... ::)

I dropped my CB450 in front of a big glass office building because I thought it would be fun to carve into my parking spot, but instead I ran over an acorn and fell over.

On my first test ride with the Virago I stalled out on the side of the road and sat next to it on the curb to get my stuff out. It fell over on my legs.

That wouldn't have been so bad, except that i watched the old guide pins for the body work I'm not using fall toward me, and remembered all those times I'd looked at them in the shop and thought "I should take those off before something dumb happens." Punched quite a hole in my leg - I was probably a sight with my pants cut into a tourniquet with a blood soaked leg...

Noticed my speedo cable had come off at the speedo, pulled over to the side of the road which was on a decline to the curb, put the stand down, hopped off the bike, slipped on gravel, knocked the bike over and fell on top of it somehow hitting the shift lever and putting it in gear.. Somehow the grip hit the grass on the other side of the curb and the passenger peg hit the curb, absolutely no damage... to the bike..

This happened to my neighbor back when I was a kid, the kickstand sinked into the asphalt on a hot day and the bike fell over on it's own, after that he would put a crushed beer can under it.

I stopped to pick up my son at daycare, hopped of the wing and started leaning it onto the kickstand, only it was still up. catching that girl after a certian lean angle gives you a flippin hernia. I did keep her from crashing but it hurt. no one even noticed, but my back did.

Tim made DTT plastic pucks for this to give out at GTG's

I hear ya, trying to catch a bike thats half way over will really mess you up. My worst motorcycle injury was from trying to catch a KZ1100 while it was falling, wont do that again.

i had a 98 thunderbird sport awesome bike. I whipped it into the triumph dealership and sharp turned at a low speed into a parking spot and totally dumped. That bike was so oddly top heavy. Dealer guy in the parking lot ran over to make sure i was ok. I was definately more worried about my bike. The bike was fine but imagine my embarassment to dump in the dealership parking lot in front of a bunch of bikers. What a douche. I didn't even go in after that. I just packed up and drove off with my tail between my legs.

Electrical gang box covers work too (though they don't look cool) and cost about 15 cents

I don't really have a funny story. But I did drop my bike for the first time this last Monday. So haha, mildly relevant? Should put this into a new thread, "That's just too bad; I dropped my bike story" :-[ :-[ :-[ :'( :'( :'(

Took a ride out onto Little Tujunga Canyon Rd just north of Los Angeles to enjoy some twistys. Decided to pull over to admire the view, but made the newb mistake of applying more rear brake while on the dirt than I should. Also its still a pretty new bike to me, CB900c, so was still getting used to the weight, like 500lbs or so. Either way, still totally my fault. Stopping was fine, but lost balance at the end with all that weight over gravel, so the bike tipped over left side.

It wasn't bad, was basically leaning on the foot peg, but unfortunately the gear box locked up. Rear wheel was solid as a rock and wouldn't budge. Guessing it was some combination of tilting hard over left, letting go of the clutch in gear, while yanking the throttle (reaction to trying to pull the bike back up). Should have just let the darn thing tip over, then with the engine off, pick it up back up.

Anyways, ended up stranded for a few hours. No cell reception at all, and no motorists (ones that stopped anyways) Walked down for a while and found a house. Hitched a ride with them to the base of the canyon to call AAA. Wait a couple of hours for a tow only on good faith, based on a quick 5 minute phone call. By now it was dark (no moon light), maybe one or two people drive by every half hour? After a while in the dark with no food, water or cell connection, you start to kinda wonder..

Anyways AAA came through and I got picked up. Made it home in time to call the gf and wish her a good night. (Nope, I'm not gonna tell you I almost got stranded!)

Tip for anyone who has AAA, make sure you get their extended tow service, think its called premium or something. Good up to 100 miles and four times a year. Pays for the insurance costs easily!

Also pro tip #2.. carry a flash light. That mess kept me sane.

Tipped the bike over a later on to try and tool around and see if I could fix it somehow. Posted for dramatic effect!

Other two pics for fun.

When I was 19 I borrowed my dads bike to ride from the Jersey shore to Philadelphia at 1:00 am because I had to be in town the next day and thought I'd rather ride than drive. I was trying to be quiet when taking the bike out from the back of the house so I didn't start it up, but rather kick-pushed it while sitting on the seat. The driveway was full of cars, so I went across the lawn. Just as I was crossing the lawn I saw a spider illuminated by a streetlight that just happened to be inches from the middle of my face. Startled, I grabbed the front brake instead of stepping on the rear, not taking into account that at 1:00am there would be a considerable amount of moisture on the grass. So at about2mph the bike and I went straight down along with the spider on my face. That sucked. Rather than make any mention of it, I picked the bike up, pushed it to the sidewalk, and started it up and rode off. About two blocks from where I started is when the spider crawled out from under my helmet. Thankfully I didn't snap down on the front brake while riding over grass at that point!

So... one weekend about the whole church followed me up to the Rock Store, and one by one, I took most for a ride. There was this one very meek woman who finally approached me for a ride. I took her through the mountains and felt pretty good about our ride, pulled the bike back into the parking and hit some sand, the front washed out and I saved the bike about an inch before it hit the ground, but couldn't lift the damn thing. I know my sportster is a pig, but I'm fairly strong for an old fuck and couldn't budge the bike, finally I look back and this woman is suctioned to the back seat, I calmly look back and tell her, "you can step off now".....

One time I was pushing my old GPZ550 out of Dreadrocks garage and...

Then, 45sec later I picked it up. Walked three feet and...

Then we rode to MidOhio and I wanted to play Gary Nixon in the muddy grass parking lot and...

Two days ago I dropped my daily rider a GPZ1100s. Was ready to leave work for home and thought I'd wheel my bike out of the shed. pushed it off the side stand started to walk with it and got yanked back by one of adjuster loops on my pants getting caught on the knob of a cabinet, the bike carried on and fell on the edge of the door, cracked all the fairing and scuffed the paint. Surprised you didn't hear all the F**ks ans sh*ts on your side of the pond.

I've also dropped it twice in the past both when fully loaded with touring gear with the
Mrs on the back. Once turning road on a narrow gravel track and another time in Germany in a car park, pulled up for a break, leant the bike over onto the stand and had forgot to put the side stand down, no way I could hold all the weight of the Mrs and all our gear so I just let it roll over.

Very timely thread! I was rolling out the CB650 to take a ride last weekend, and somehow I slipped or the bike slipped on the gravel driveway and I ended up sloowwwwllllyyyy dropping it on the right side. The only damage was the brake lever snapping in half and my mortally wounded pride.

I felt like a damn idiot, and of course, couldn't go for a ride on it without a front brake.

As a kid, I was playing on my Dad's '83 Nighthawk (he still has it), and I managed to knock it off the stand and pin myself under it! I was stuck there in the garage until my Dad found me and lifted the bike off of me. Scary stuff for a little kid!

When I was 17 I rode my new fast TZR250 home that I had just picked up. I managed to safely ride about 30 km through rush hour traffic. When I pulled into the driveway I proudly gave it a few revs, only I must have let the clutch out slightly, and the bike went straight into the garage door! I bailed just before it hit.
