I know this will sound odd, but have you thought about flipping that rear lamp and fitting it upside down? You could also french it in to tidy it up and hide those brackets and the subframe which is pretty agricultural on those things.
At the front I'd either pull the headlamp back towards the bars by 2 - 3" OR drop it slightly and exaggerate that mantis look. That fairing is a little bit "pretty" to make the alien look work, but you might get away with it.
At least you are making progress. My project is taking so long that I keep re-designing it and tidying things up. I'm on the 3rd or 4th redesign of the seat and the tail lamp/license plate arrangement and now I'm looking at nightriderz and LED light strips to make the tail lights less visible when they are not illuminated.
i cut the fairings like that to show off the frame, i know that sounds weird but i want the fairings to look like they are added to cut wind and that is all, that is why they have a very block look to them and they are cut so high. in back frenching it in, trust me the idea crossed my mind. i still may use some screen mesh to blend it a bit more, but i will see what it looks like after it is painted up and ready to go, the tail light will be tinted of course... the lamp may still change but i have to get it off the table and on the ground to get a good look at it... can not even do that till i can find someone to weld the foot back on my kick stand! ha ha ha
well, did not get much done last night... ya know St. Paddys day and all... but, while i waited on the wife to come home i put in the rebuild kit in the brakes, cleaned up the pistons, put in the new composite pads, cleaned up the braided lines, and mounted them all up... my speed bleeders are here so i just have to pick up some dot 4 and i can bleed them out!
*sorry for the crap pics, snapped pics with my cell this morning
eliminated the junction and ran them right to the master, have a bit of extra but i can secure that nicely so it does not look all floppy
Hey Joe, how well does that work with the 2 lines into the master? I would liek to get braided lines and clean up the dual disc on the GL and it would be nice to run like that, I have never seen it done that way before. Did you need a different banjo bolt?
Looking good, can't wait to see this all finished, The color scheme is really nice. The Nudie wing is very close only in reverse. Balck frame and Metallic orange tins. But it isn't near as shiny as your FZR, that is just a great powder job.
it is a extended banjo, made for this set up. has 3 washers to it, one for in front of the lines, the middle, and at the end. the banjo itself has 2 holes one for each line
Joe, is there any benifit from this setup, or disadvantage? Just wondering why you would swap to this vs a splitter. I would think it would look cleaner with one line and then spit it at the fender like most stock sportbike setups, as you would only route one hose away from the bars and down the fork tubes.
there is really no advantage or dissadvantage, this is actually how most race bikes and newer style rockets run them. I did it cause these where the braided lines that came with the brakes and i wanted to use them. i have the stock lines that could run it like that, but i am not willing to give up the braided lines. they are too nice!
since i am using the stock master, it will not be like OOOH MY GOD brakes, but i have to say, i love the look of braided lines, just looks... well racey!
Running twin brake lines is common when upgrading to braided - it's cheaper to make 2 identical lines than to fab up a single line with a splitter. Also there is reduced chance of getting air bubbles caught in the system (splitters can be nice little bubble catchers )
Performance wise, there's no real advantage with twin lines v's 1 into 2 - although just having braided lines will improve you brake feel no end
Well, got after it Thurs and Fri night, got the rest of the paint done, rear brakes lined up (still need to mount up the master so i have not blead them yet), front engine brace on the other side, picked up my engine gasket kit, and started to wire the bike, also got the passanger peg supports on the bike. once the wiring is done, then i can put in the gaskets, get the radiator and exhaust back on... finish the carbs (need to set the floats, jet kit is already in there)
almost! workign like crazy!!!!
after the last coat of semi gloss black, snapped a pic after the booth cleared out and i was getting the clear ready
yeah, great looking bike. my first bike was a 1996 FZR600, and it was sweet. I would love to own one again some day. cant wait to see how yours turns out.
I like the low, forward placement of the headlight. That LED accent lighting you are talking about should really set it off too.
Looking great Joe, the headlight is starting to grow on me a bit! Have you aborted the CF? If so, I think you need something on those tins to tie them in. Everything on that bike looks too bad ass to leave just semi black! Pin striping and racing stripes are too common and old school pin stripping is just that, too old school for this fighters look. A pattern in a high gloss black, or a dark charcoal color would fit the bill. I say no lace but, I have a little trick that might work well and is really easy to do! PM me if your interested and we can get together on it. I think you will really dig it and you could do it super quick!
I really like the light! I dig how its lines fall right along the wheel. As long as it doesn't look like there is too much space between it and the head stock from the riders angle I'd say don't change a thing!! And I really like Twisted's idea about using some gloss black in there, I've been playing with that idea on my bike, got some parts in low gloss right now while the rest is semi I might do some more in low sooner or later. Keep it up looks killer!
we will see, i want to get it as a rider then i can touch up on paint, these plastics come off so easy. As far as the LED legal in CA, not sure to be honest.
did not get much done last night but did get alot done, that prob does not make much sence, but the controls are all back together and on the bike, the carbs are clean, floats are set, and the new jets are in, just placed them over the spot they go cause i am going to run the wires before i put the carbs in for sure, hope to have all th wireing done on the bike after tonight, but i got 2 monster valve covers in that need to be polished for a customer so we will see...
also got the clutch perch on the bike, and lubed it, added the clutch switch to it..
this tuscan flat black, the more i add to the bike the more i fall in love with it!
