Garage share?

Hey, are there any open shared space arrangements? Ideally in east Toronto or south Scarborough.

I need space periodically to take a bike apart, possibly to paint but not necessary, heat is a bonus. I come with my own tools and a decent background of mechanical and automotive/bike figure-it-out(edness). I have a portable mig welder, with solid and resin core(easy or with the tank).

I'd appreciate some feedback from anybody who has done this and had it work, or not!

Dude, it sounds like a great idea and if I didn't live two hours east I would be game to try to make it work, but alas Belleville is a bit far for you.

Cool HR, I am trying to cut down on my travel time myself. Need the time to chop up a GS750 for a track bike and plug the leaks in the commuter GS750.

Ya, I am so keen to get working on my GS... but I am too busy and have other commitments for my cash. I wish I had a discretionary fund available with about 5 grand in it. I wouldn't need all that for my GS but I would be able to just order the parts and go! Just out of curiosity, how much have you spent on any bikes you have built? or if this is your first build... how much do you plan to spend? Also, what track do you ride on? I live quite close to Shannonville Speedway and I am hoping if I can find some time and money... to do some amateur racing. Time will tell.

Law is great but so time demanding.

I hate waiting!

HR.

Hey HR, I bought a 76 GS750 for $500 without a title 6 years ago. I cant get it licenced as it has the old serial # and not the standard VIN and no history. I've put about 100 hours and $500 into it so far; rebuilt carbs and petcock, both calipers and master cylinder, changed wheel bearings, new cables, had to replace the missing starter and flywheel and cleaned up the stock exhaust. it still needs a gasket and seal kit to plug the oil leaks. Most of what ive done was to become framiliar with motorbike systems and a cleaning as much as possible before buying replacement parts. Now I want to strip it to take the VRRA road racing school at Shannonville in May and mabye go farther over the summer to race next year.

I just bought a neglected '83 GS750 for a commuter and it will need $5-600 and 30-40 hours to clean it up. This starts all after the GF's garden shed is cleaned out and made into a garage.

The CB550 I've been riding needs a serious overhaul (read oil leaks) and cleaning (read sat under a crap tarp all winter) before it goes to a new home. No money or time for that project so it will sit till fall.

I work for UofT and we get paid monthly(!), this has a huge impact on short term budgeting, no unplanned expenses cause there isn't more money appearing till the first of the month. The track project will be the biggest thing I have undertaken in a motorcycle, I'll be lost when I have to source a fairing, rear sets and clip-ons; these are totally new to me.

What other groups race old stuff at Shannonville? Who has open track days and how does one get saddle time on an unplated machine!?

Yours truly,
Over-my-head

What year is your CB550? Is it already modded café style? How much are you going to ask for it?

I might be interested and I defo have a few friends who would be potentially interested. Its amazing... I hadn't even heard of Café Racers until the middle of summer two years ago. No idea. Now that I am obsessed, I have been preaching it to the masses and a bunch of my friends are interested.

I just love the learning curve. I am building two bikes (very slowly) at the moment.. I want to learn to do all the stuff that I didn't learn when I was in high school... welding, sheet metal work, painting and polishing. It serves as a very nice break from law.

The last commuter was a 1978 CB550K, it is destined to be overhauled for my niece when she starts to ride. I got the bike from my brother on the condition that it come back when I am finished riding it.

I have never done a cafe conversion, mostly because I don't have the time or finances to start fitting on non original parts. Like I said, I'll clean and restore anything I don't have to spend money on. I also don't have enough savvy to source non original equipment and have it fit as it should. I am going to need to modify a seat for the track, I have a background in upholstery so that part I'm looking forward to, once I can find the inspiration and technical dimensions I will need to make it happen.

Man, I'm looking for a garage share as well. Just bought a '73 CB750 and want to start the build. I'm in the downtown core, but would consider a share if it wasn't too far away + had parking for my truck when I was at the garage/ out riding.

Well, it hasn't happened for me yet. I'm moving my resto project into a tool shed to get it cleaned up for the riding season and working in anything serious at my brothers place, an hour out of town.

I am also really interested in VRRA race school and racing. But I won't be able to get at it until next summer. I have too much going on at the moment. Please let me know both if you guys get something happening in the city and also if any of you decide to come out here to see/visit/participate in Shannonville.

I am working on my GS750 but b/c it was a basket case... the progress is SOOO slow. I want to ride this year but that won't happen unless I find a sweet cheap running bike to buy and ride.

On the up side... it seems the weather is just finally starting to warm up!

Hey, I'm new and looking for people to ride and work on bikes with. Do you guys all live in the downtown core?

would be cool to get to meet some new friends to ride with.

Cheers.

Hey! Welcome to DTT.

I am not in the downtown core at all (Yahoo!). I live in Belleville.. so five minutes and I am out of the city and into country biking! Actually, to be honest, I do miss riding in the city a little bit...

So, are you building a bike? If so, what are you building? What stage are you at? Why not start a build thread?

Any questions, let me know. I am not the most knowledgeable here on DTT (by a long shot!) but I can point you in the right direction.

Matt

Thanks HR. I just recently built a 79 KZ 750 twin.

Riding downtown is a pain however I live close to the Rosedale Valley road so I find myself doing laps through there.
My old man lives in Whitby and I been cruising out in the country roads with him and my brother sometimes.

I will likely start a build thread when I get all the photos and descriptions sorted out.

Just looking to meet up with some good people for some good rides.

Hey Langoid,
Im in Whitby like your old man, whatcha riding?? I see some dudes around here on older Suzi's and CB's but never get a chance to stop and shoot the shit about bikes, it would be nice to ride with some dudes on older bikes

I'm also looking to share some garage space. Ideally somewhere closer to downtown or near subway line.
Anyone know where the best place to look is?
