Gas Tank Mounting (Tips and Tricks)?

I'm placing a CB 200 gas tank on the '79 CM 185T (Twinstar) frame I'm changing to a scrambler of sorts.

I'd like to get the tank mounted so the bottom edge is nice and horizontal ... and creates a flat line that continues with the seat behind it (mock-up pic attached).

It looks as if I'll need to weld new pegs for the front rubber mounts in a slightly higher location.

Here's a CB 200 (note the flat tank placement):

Here's how one fella mounted his CB 200 tank, with an upward angle on it. I like the bike, but not the tank angle (for mine). Uh, scroll down past the cat.

Do you folks have general rules of thumb that would be helpful when mounting tanks?

I try to the err on the side of smart and simple ... which is why I'm asking for help.

If there's an existing thread I should read here at DTT for help, let me know--I've looked.

Thanks.

Quick note about my pic: the silver "bracket" (with the hole) that's hanging at the bottom-front of the tank is (obviously) not part of the tank ... it's just a harness hook that happened to be dangling.

Its not really a question anyone can answer easily over the interweb. As long as you make sure it rubber mounted, and the petcock is at the low point, your fine. Theres a million ways to do it.

Here's how I'm mounting mine. Not sure if it'll work for you:

Hey, Doc ... thanks for the info! Do let me know how that works out. I had sorta resigned myself to having a friend weld new pegs in place, but your solution sounds do-able for me as well. And even if it doesn't work, you still have the tabs in place so that--holes or not--you still have the original mounting style to utilize, since the tabs are still part of the tank. These tanks are winding up on so many bikes that I just assumed someone would have some tips to share. I'm glad you did, and I'll continue to follow your build!
