GASKETS!?!?!

hey guys,

so i know this may be a simple thing to do, but because i know that my impatience has gotten the better of me in the past and considering i dont know much yet, i thought i would ask you guys.

Is there any particular way to replace my Gaskets on my Honda VTR250 side covers, both sides, the crank and the stator, just those green gaskets?
Or do you pretty much just stick them on there after ripping the old ones off?

also, what do i need to apply to the rubber around the electrical parts that lead into the covers to make sure it doesn't leak?
