Gear engagement problem

Hello everyone, so the bike im working on is a 1972 CL350. Ive had a lot of problems with my fuel feeding/carbs but i think ive sorted that out for now. Just recently my bike would only rev up to 3k or at best 4/5k but now it rev up fully, after i changed the oil because it had alot of gas in it. So here is where my new problem is. My kick starter has been slowly but surely been losing grip. Like it hasnt been wanting to grab. And now its at the point to where it doesnt grab at all. And on top of that, when i go to ride it, it only creeps at about 5mph and revs up like its half way in neutral. If anyone has any idea where to start digging that would great because i dont want to try fix everything else besides the real problem lol. Thanks in advanced

Sounds like clutch slip. Start by adjusting the clutch adjuster and cable and if that doesn't help, pop the clutch cover off and check it out.

Thanks guys, i figured there had to be something wrong with the clutch but wasnt sure. But that doesnt seem to explain the kick starter not grabbing or does it?

I'm pretty sure that on that bike the kickstarter operates through the clutch. If the clutch slips the motor won't turn.

If you pull the clutch lever in it should feel like the kickstarter is just moving through jello - slight resistance but not much else going on.

After thinking about it for a second i felt stupid for asking that. Well i guess now i need to take my clutch apart and check it out and order a new one.
